Hybrids... Just a friendly Conversation please.

Yes, they are.

Educate me: Wolf dogs are not crosses between dogs and wolves? But they have wolf "content"? Are they then offspring of hybrids, rather than hybrids themselves? I don't understand the derivation of wolf dogs as a breed. How does is work, and what are they?

No they are not. Domestic Dogs are a subspecies of the Gray Wolf. That is why all the off springs of the mating are fertile. If they were two different species not all of the offspring would be able to reproduce.

I think you got your posts crossed....I wasn't answering anything to do with wolves or dogs.

I was answering a post from the previous page.

Wolf Dogs are crosses between Wolves and Domestic Dogs. "Wolf" is what part of their lineage came from a "pure" wolf. Their off springs are not hybrids because dogs are a subspecies of the gray wolf. Wolf Dogs are not a breed because too many breeds of dogs are used. German Shepard, Malamutes, Huskies, and more are common.

I do apologize for my misunderstanding. I simply assumed the post right after mine was directed towards it.

Yes they are in fact a cross breed. That is why any true breeder will not refer to them as hybrids. Because this is false.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it!

I think I probably don't have the aptitude for a wolf dog, I think I'd best stick with my mutts. I hear wonderful things about them, but also that they take a different kind of attention than your garden variety pound puppy, probably because of the non-domesticated genes.
