Can anyone give me any insight to what is going on here? I thought she was getting bullied. Put a chicken saddle on for a while and the sore is still there. Feather are not growing. It has been several months. She also has a bare spot on the back of her head as well. I have a feeling the sore is infected bc her skin is starting to turn red around it :( I have been watching the flock more closely and I do not see any signs of bullying.

Why are her feathers not growing back? Do I need to treat this sore? I just feel so bad for her.

Do you have a rooster? If not then one of your dominant hens could be mounting her which would create the bald spots on the back of her head and back. I would keep the saddle on and dont take it off until after her next molt where those feathers should grow back.

You should also clean that wound thoroughly with something like Hibiclens or sterile saline solution - you can make your own, Google it. Then blot it dry with a clean cloth and coat it with a triple antibiotic ointment that does NOT have pain reliever in it, like Neosporin or its generic equivalent. Do this twice daily, clean it and put antibiotic on it. And put a chicken apron on her, you can order them on line. Until you get one, put her in a dog crate where she can see the other chickens and they can see her but can't peck her.
