so, I’ll get the sad part out of the way. A snake got 6 of my eggs when mama hopped off the nest today. I never advocate for killing snakes but he will be dead or moved from our property before these babies hatch. I have cursed him enough today, turd.

Anyways - 6 eggs left. I got these eggs June 18th from a friend, because I don’t have a roo and I h e two broodies. I had to split the remaining six today because my cochin was freaking out when she got back to her empty nest. It was SO SAD. She had t left the nest for two whole days before this. My poor girl.

Anyways, I candled today. Because for one - I thought I was at day 8. But now...I’m confused as hell. All eggs seem viable but those darn black copper maran eggs are hard to tell. There’s an obvious air sac, but I can’t see much else. very nice veining with the others. But in one of my silkie eggs I was seeing TONS of movement and I’m under the impression that this DOES NOT happen this early??? I’m going to include some photos and a video if I can get it up on you tube first.

Silkie.

CM. My camera makes it look very light in the room for some reason and I assure you it is not.

They may be a little further along than 8 days, but not much. I would just keep an eye out for pipping and you'll know their ready. Also, keep up with the candling and you'll notice the chicks starting to absorb the veins and yolk, a sign of them preparing to hatch. This always sounds a little odd, but when their further along you should be able to hear the chick's egg tooth banging against the shell once they break through the membrane if you put the egg up close to your ear. Of course you really only need to do this if your curious to where their at as far as progress before the external pip is visible. Good luck and if you have any questions as to what to do if a chick should need help, don't hesitate to ask. But I hope you get a smooth hatch and won't have to worry about that. :D

Thank you - this is my first hatch ever so I’m slightly ignorant! I appreciate your information!

No problem ;)
I've done multiple hatches and I still like to convince myself their further along than they are because when it comes to hatching, I'm very impatient, lol.
