Hi! My name is Emily (Emi) McMail, and I stumbled across this site a year ago and just now made a profile. I just have too many questions and comments (and birds!!!) to watch from the sidelines anymore, LOL.

Let's see, I grew up riding horses, and 3-Day Eventing was my passion for a long time, but something about the bird-raising part of farm life always felt like the thing that was missing from mine.

When I experienced multi-organ failure in May 2017 and wasn't expected to make it, after months of re-learning how to function, after surviving a coma and after many unpleasant procedures, I decided life is too short to give up my dream of owning chickens. At least, it started out that way.

I now have 31 chickens, 35 ducks, 4 guinea hens, 2 Toulouse geese, and a turkey. Making decisions was never my strong suit.

So, here I am, alive and delighted to find so many others who share a passion for all things farm bird-related! They say you can't win 'em all, but I feel truly blessed to have so many feathered friends that enrich my life and teach me lessons in patience every day!

I would be interested to find out how y'all got your start!

This site is FULL of all info you will want/need to know about chickens and all poultry in general (and even other animals). And full of active, and fantastic members, they're amazing.

Think I accidentally replied to the next post, but thank you! Will do! My WiFi stinks out here so it's hard to respond sometimes. Anyway, I wish I knew more people in person that could help out with stories/opinions/advice. My best friend is a psychologist and avid duck hunter so he helps a LOT with the ducklings, even though it isn't his thing. I just need to find immediate answers to emergency questions, and this site is incredible for that! I really appreciate the input!
