I Am An Idiot

I don't know how much you would be able to see, but I don't think it would hurt them.

Last time I checked, they were all wiggling. I guess I just want to see that one more time. After seeing actual living things inside the shells (I could not see through the blue eggshells), I will be REALLY sad if I don't have a live hatch!

Ooohhh... poor babies never had a chance. :aww NOT YOUR FAULT. It is one of the risks we take shipping the eggs.

If the channels are full, then the humidity is fine. It could be the hygrometer, it could be the placement... I can move mine all over in there and get a different reading every time. Just keep the two smaller ones full during the first phase, then all of them the last, and you'll be fine.

I usually candle mine on day 7, 14, and 17, the day before I put them in the hatcher. You probably won't see much, but if you have more clear space than just the airsac, then they either gave up or aren't quite ready yet.
But it can help you decide which ones to put in or leave out.

As long as you don't let them get cold, or heated by the light, I don't think it would hurt. I am so anxious about my guineas eggs, that I was gonna candle them yesterday. missprissy told me to wait until day 10, and I figured it was about that. I looked at the dates on them, and I just put them in the bator on the 15th!!

OK, we just checked the 25 Buff Orpington eggs (24 from Jody, 1 of our own), late on Day 16. I didn't see movement in EVERY one, and I'm sure that we lost at least a few along the way, but I was scared to throw any away that weren't obviously clear. One was totally clear, and we took it out. Opened it up, and it just looked pretty much like a "regular" egg.

The most vigorous wiggler is, of course, the one from our own hen that was put in the incubator the day it was laid. Is it logical to expect that one to hatch first, or does it make any difference?

The thing that's killing me is that I'm sure we made it THIS far with at least a few of the Ameraucana eggs, and that hatch turned out to be a total loss. We've upped temps since then, to compensate for the still-air, thanks to the tips here, and we'll add a large damp sponge when we take out the turner, for humidity.

I just don't want the fate of the last hatch to befall this one!

I don't believe the freshness of the egg determines which egg hatches first. If they all started incubation on the same day, they should all hatch around the same time...

Good luck....

Now that I think of it, I actually sneaked the fresh one in about 18 hours after starting the others.

I didn't intend to, but my daughter had a FIT over this one egg, for some reason.

THANK YOU. I need them! Although, I know how it is with you addicts--you just want to add more innocents to your hatchaholic ranks!
