I am getting furstrated with RUDE PEOPLE!!!

So I'm working in the ER tonight- and a family came in with flu symptoms. Granted, there are TONS of rude people that come through here on a daily basis, but this dude (the father) particularly got on my last nerve. We have a nurse working tonight that has just finished a round of chemo to battle her cancer. Her WBC is incredibly low because of it, which makes her VERY succeptible to ANY bugs, so she routinely wears a mask- even if her patients have no symptoms of a contageous illness- for her protection.
I chose to put a mask on this time simply because my mother is severly immuno compromised, and I do not want to bring anything home to her if I can help it.
As the nurse I mentioned earlier and I taking these patients back to their room, the father (who is younger than me) is saying, "Look babe- they're wearing masks! They work in a freaking HOSPITAL and they are afraid of getting SICK! HaHa!!!"
Normally this would have rolled off me like water off a duck's back, but tonight- it just ticked ME OFF!!!

Maybe it's because it's that time of the month, or maybe it's because I am in no mood for inconsiderate, ignorant people tonight!!!!

I understand you completely, don't they know we control the good stuff? More and more people have no respect for us or their families. I work in Labor and delivery, it's bad there too sometimes.

I have the hospital way too much lately and I am shocked at the number of people that are rude to the nurses. Especially when they are using the emergency room for "free" care for colds and the flu. People need to be reminded they can catch more flies with honey instead of vinegar.

Along the line of people being rude, and people being idiots...

My kid brother just called me literally about 20 minutes ago and tells me that he went to WalMart where they have those "Red Box" DVD Rental machines. He says he was next in line and the lady in front of him seems to be confused. She has a "free DVD" promo code that she probably nicked off the web, and she's trying to use it, but when it gets to the part about her putting in her credit card, she starts getting huffy. So she starts all over, then reads the Terms and Conditions and all of a sudden starts blasting the machine with repeated F-Bombs and then proceeds to beat the machine up!!

My brother is completely shocked, the lady behind him with her two elementary school aged kids steps up and tries to tell her to calm down... then the crazy F-Bomb lady proceeds to unleash on her in front of her kids. That poor woman apparently sprinted with her kids in tow to get an employee, and somehow by the end of this the lady was only escorted out of the door??! I would've called the cops!

On a much smaller scale, I'm just sensitive and have a hard time letting things roll off... for instance, when I stop and wave someone to cross the road - I'm being nice, now why can't they wave back or smile or SOMETHING?!

I hate stupid and rude people.

[Edited to add - The lady was repeatedly screaming in between the swearing that she wanted her free DVD. When the WalMart associate tried to explain to her that the Red Box company requires credit cards not so they can charge them, but so they can cover themselves in case someone steals the DVD... did this lady really not understand that concept or was she flat out raging from some kind of drug and alcohol induced frenzy??]

I think it must be a weird moon or something this week, in hospitals. The rudeness abounds. Started last Sat when I was walking down the surgical corridor when I hear " OH POOP! I forgot to pass the pain meds"

Then I'm getting rude emails from some person running a celiac support group. he RDs are riled up about a discharge planner. Found out that I've been finding eh hem human tissue being stored in the food freezers.

I had no clue what it was so I was handling it and throwing it away. They are trying to make it go away by being evasive. But found another today, so now it's stored elsewhere and will be tested, by the lab. I'm so glad I'm off for a couple days.

When my wife had her accident I was surprised that in the ER none of the Nurses or Dr's WERE wearing masks, or for that matter offered us masks.
The (incompetent) night staff at the er actually told me not to use the hand sanitizer since I could contaminate their room. what???
We have masks and hand sanitizers in all our landscape vehicles. Spraying chemicals, mowing, etc... protects our employees.
When all was said and done after our er visit we got all costs dropped to zero. Cause being to the adminitrator: They put us at risk for wound infection buy not wearing or offering us masks. No access to sanitizers. We could not wear our own masks to protect ourselves.
We were not rude at all. Just politely asking for masks for me and my wife almost got me arrested by the charge nurse and the on duty cop.
Our middle dtr is an RN and we almost daily hear her horror stories.

I'm naturally sensitive too, and I work for a retail drug store chain and being in management I take all the heat for situations I had nothing to do with, and it sucks when people will personally attack you over something you have no control over. This years Back to School was really rough. I don't belong in retail....

I was recently in the hospital. They thought I had the plague and confined me to my room. I even apologized to my nurses for taking them away from what they were doing to get me something for pain. I think it shocked them that I was so nice to them, but dang they work their butts off and are treated like crap. (I can't say the same for the ones that sit behind the desk and answer the room buzzers. They don't get off their butts to help and are nasty like you are bothering them)

I work for a living. So do nurses, wait-staff, trashmen, and anyone else out there that puts in an honest days work. You don't get paid enough for what you do. I keep trying to follow the "Golden Rule" my momma taught me long ago. "Do unto others as........" That's the way I am.


PS I am not however a floor mat. I have noooooooooo problem with taking you down with words from me or your supervisor when you have ticked me off!!

Because of H1N1 we have sanitation stations at all the entrances. I noticed today for the first time several visitors wearing masks. No staff including me. I think we get blase about it, seeing it everyday. But put up an Isolation sign and the masks, gloves etc come out in full force.
