HEY!!! In CA severance is not considered vacation pay or bonus pay so you do NOT have to disclose it in your unemployment application. Remember that!

Thank you for that info

I wasnt aware.

Laurie, I know , it really hurts that they couldnt let me make my 20 years , there's a chance they may give me my 20 year gift as the paperwork they gave me said if I receive notification of it before I leave, it means I'm getting it, and they usually send that in Nov... so I hope they at least recognize it.

I am so sorry. Are they at least giving a serverance package to hold you over for a while?

As for college loans, I understand. There are some mongo debt I will be facing in the next year or so. Right now, my subtitute teching job has been once or twice a week.

The stimulus package still has yet to be fully disbursed. Only about 10% has been used so far. It also does not offset the major cutbacks the state government has done these last two years. It may take another 6 months or a year before we see any real progress.

Have you thought about heading back to school? I know that most of the universities are hard to get into now. But, there are private colleges like Chapman that are always accepting new people and may give you some financial aid. It may hold you over and give you an advantage when the economy finally turns around.

You are welcome!!! I learned that when I was laid off from Dow Jones. I had 6 months severance and not a penny was counted towards any benefits. Only vacation and BONUSES count.

If you were just diagnosed with an illness and they laid you off you might want to check into the legalities of them having to provide you the option of continuing your insurance.

WOW....20 yrs...that's a kick in the you know what !
Too bad it had to end.....even if you didn't completely enjoy everything about the job...you still had it and were comfortable .

I've been laid off for a year (Union apprentice...electrical ) and hubby has been off work for the almost the same amount of time ( had surgery in April...released in July to work ) he ended up down in California to work ( he's Union electrical journeyman ) . Miss him so much but at least we have a paycheck coming in . Tried to go to work down there myself but they have apprentices out of work there also . At least we're good about saving money....if we didn't work for another year we'd be fine.

All the best of luck to you....20 yrs means something...shows you're reliable..hard worker...and willing to commit ! Take your break and find a great job !
