I am just SO mad!

I hate that people are allowed to let their cats roam all over. My neighbors have like 20 wild cats running around and I can't do anything about it. Make sure that you clean any scratches you got really well.

One of my biggest pet peeves is outdoor cats. I'm sorry for saying it, and I know lots of you have them. They are "domestic" cats. They should be inside. What most folks don't know is that they are largely responsible for several breeds of birds going extinct, and upsetting the natural ecosystem's balance.

I DO have a barn cat...he wandered onto our property and never left. So I'm just as responsible, as I know he eats birds. I feel guilty as heck about this, but he's not catchable. We did trap him and had him neutered way back when, though.

I'm SO sorry about this predicament! I hope poor Elvis makes it out okay!

I would worry about the scratches getting infected.

I know it was doing what a lot of cats do but I would have been very angry as well. Especially considering your history with the neighbors.

Make sure it has had its rabies shot and get yourself a tetanus shot. Send the bill to the neighbor. Keep the wounds clean and put neosporin on them.

i'd tell the neighbor to keep it on their land before you kill it. i'm not sure but they might be able to get you on killing their cat.
but just for good measure after going to the doctor, bring little elvis to the vet and get him all checked up. send them the bill for that too.

eta: i have outdoor cats that barely ever catch anything. occasionally the "bread winner" will bring something home, but for the 7 years we've had the other cat, he brought us a squirrel (alive!) and then let it go once he showed it to us. there are only two and they are friendly so when the neighbors call them, they run over and let them pet them. the bread winner went after one neighbors little pug puppy, but we yelled at him and he stopped. the owner laughed at the fact that their dog was so small our cat tried to catch it.

Did you clean the wound out immediately and put neosporin on it? Cat scratches are notoriously bacteria-laden.

That sounds like some mean cat. You'll certainly want to notify your neighbors about what happened and they should be responsible for any vet bills incurred.

Definintly keep the scratches clean, triple anti , and watch yourself for fevers , swelling, or excessive pain.... If you have any of these go to hospital,! Cat scratches are very dirty and prone to infection...

Get the tetanus , demand to see rabies records andcall your doc.. they get bad quick sometimes....My niece didnt get cat scratch fever but did get a secondary infection and almost died, there were other factors like she was anemic but better safe then sorry..

I know these people would never be able to pay ANY bill. I would just get stuck with it. I dont wanna have to do all that small claims court either. If it comes down to it I will be going to the Dr..or vet.

Once animal control gets here Im going to tell them to make sure the cat has its rabies shots (which I know it DOES NOT) tell them they just had me cited for cats going on their property..Im working to get a fence up because we are having trouble with each others dogs trying to attack each other. I try and try to be leniant with them cause I myself am an animal lover and I understand the occasional accindental animal getting out but this just went to far this time!

I'd call the police too. If they fine you for a cat like they'd fine you for a dog, you could possibly sue them for the cat attacking you like you'd sue someone for a dog attack. I hope your bunny's ok! I know rabbit's don't do well under stress, keep him calm and put electrolytes in his water.

A note to the OP: While making sure the scratches don't get infected, make sure you also don't get parasites. Eggs can get under the cats nails and paws from using the bathroom or even licking themselves.

I would be furious too! But I also understand that it's their nature. I have a cat who is mainly outdoors though she does spend a lot of time inside the house. She is a great cat, will chase after any small thing that moves (particularly chipmunks which we don't need around here). I have seen her stalk birds but she is too slow to catch them (mind you this is a very slim cat meant for outdoor life). I have however seen her chase squirrels, but she never catches those either.

I would let the neighbors know and give them a warning. Show them what happened to the rabbit and say if it happens again, say bye bye to mister Fluffenstein.

I hope you and your rabbit recover from the scare
