Chapter 15

“Hey Maizie! Are you gonna tell us more today?” Lacey approaches me.
“I don't know. I'll think about it. I'm feeling a little down and tired. I had a really long day...” I admit.
“Okay, I understand.” Lacey smiles.
“Make sure you assure Butter that I don't know if I'll continue today. If she asks why, tell her what I have told you.”
“Okay.”
“Where's Matt?”
“Out looking for you.”
“Oh... I better go see him.”
“Yeah.... You probably should.”
“I'll see ya in a while.”
I trot off looking for Matt. “Matt? Matt! Matt???” I yell. “Sweetie! Matt!”
He approaches me from behind me. “Yes?” He replies to my calls.
“Oh, hey Matt.” I half smile.
“I didn't mean to--”
“Don't worry about it. She'll cool off. Give her some time.”
“Okay...” He sighs.
“Should I tell more to Lacey and Butter today? I mean... I'm glad their so interested in hearing about my other life, but... What if they are just using me, so that they can go off and gossip. I really hope that they are real friends. Sometimes they seem like they, just, aren't.”
“I can't pick your friends... Personally, they remind me of that playful and giggly mare, Pudge.”
“I remember Pudge. She was a different one, but we had great times together. She was a great friend to have, even though she was fifteen sizes bigger than me.” I grin.
“Yeah... I guess she was fun. Who would have thought that a horse and a chicken would make friends? It's just so... Different.”
“Yeah, I guess so. But still, I wish she didn't move away.”
“We all miss her.”
“But I thought that you thought that Pudge was weird and different and whatever.”
“Just because I thought all those things, doesn't mean she wasn't my friend. We had good times together.”
“Yeah.... I guess I am going to go and tell Lacey and Butter a little more before it gets dark.”
“Okay, I'll see you in a little while then.” He muzzles my neck.
I grin.

Chapter 16

“Hey, Lacey... I just decided that I am going to tell you guys more today.” I smile.
“Ooh! Okay! I'll go get Butter.” Lacey replies instantly.
“Okay, be back soon. I'll be in the coop.”
“Okay!”
I go over to the coop and nest in the sand for a minute or two. Then, I get up and head over to the feeder and waterer. I take a big gulp of water.
“Ah...”
“Hi, hi!” Butter approaches me, with Lacey at her side.
“Hey. Ready for more?”
“Most definitely!”
“Okay...
'I don't wanna go back! It's so much better out here! I can fly, and move around! I can touch the ground, rather than wires and you! Don't you think that this is the best for us?' I tried to encourage them to believe that we can stay out.
'No one wants to go back! We all LOVE moving around and doing better things! It's definitely the best for us! I'm just afraid that we're gonna get put back in the cage... Just promise me that you all won't get your hopes up too soon. We have to wait until we see a little more light. It's so dim.' Genius told all of us.
'I guess your right.' I sighed.
'I guess so too. We have no idea what our future is gonna look like.' Alex agreed.
'Yeah... You guys are right.' Mary said.
'Let's just find us some light. We'll be thankful if it doesn't get any darker. Come on...” Genius started to head down the hallway. We all followed her.
'La, la, la la, la!' Alex skipped down the hallway.
'Can you please stop being so noisy?' Genius commented on Alex's childish behavior.
She hesitated. 'Oh, sorry... I'm just so anxious! I wanna get out of here! I really hope we find light.'
'It's fine.' Genius smiled. 'We all wanna get out of here. It's so dull and smelly.'
Mary giggled. 'Smelly?'
'It reeks of smoke and icky stuff.'
'I'm so used to it, I don't even notice it anymore.'
'It's so disgusting! I can't stand it! It... It hurts!'
'It's very disgusting. I wish that we weren't here.'
'Well, come on.'
We walked for a very long time. We heard something bang and saw a beam of light, kind of like the beam of light I saw when I was in the egg. 'Guys.... What was that noise?'
'I don't know...' Mary replied.
'Me neither... But I do see some light!' Genius commented.
'Kind of like the first beam of light I saw,' Alex said. ' when I was in my egg.' She continued.
'Yeah. Your right Alex. It is like that.' I replied to Alex's remark.
BANG! There was a big slam. The beam of light went out. We all paused. We were frightened.”

Chapter 17

“No!!! What happens next????” Butter interrupts.
“It's the evil.... Humans...” Lacey answers Butter.
“Not all humans are evil.” Butter snaps.
“Come one guys... Just let me continue.” I try to calm them down.
“Okay.” They say together.
“Click clack, click clack, click clack – That noise continued for a long time.
'Genius! What do we do?' I ask.
'Genius, help us!' Alex agrees.
'Come on, Genius!' Mary pleads.
'What am I supposed to do? I can't protect you!' Genius sighs.
'We know that... Just, what do we do?' I ask.
'Just be calm, and continue to walk quietly. Don't stop to peck around.'
'Okay.'
'BOK! BOK!' A hen screeched.
'Mary? Alex? Where did they go to?'
I turned around. 'What?'
'I don't know where Mary and Alex are!'
I gasped. 'What?!?!?! MARY?!?!?! ALEX?!?!?!'
We heard a bunch of loud and long screeches.
'The humans got them! We have to find them!' Genius told me.
We started to run down the hallway. Faster and faster. I wiped out. I felt something nudging me.
'Maizie? Are you okay? Maizie???????' Genius asked me.
'Huh? What? What happened?' My brain wondered off.
'You tripped over your feet. You were running too fast. Now get up, we need to find Alex and Mary.'
'Okay.' I stood up. We didn't run, but we walked really fast.
Click clack, click clack, click clack – We heard the noise again.
'Oh, shut up you worthless chickens!' A voice said. I didn't understand a word it said.
'BOK! BOK! BOK! BOK!' It was Mary and Alex! The humans had them. They were close by.
We saw a big chunk of bright light for a second, and then heard a big slam. It went dark again. Genius and I stayed silent. We continued to walk. I saw something shimmer. It was round and gold. Also attached to the gray wall.
'Wait, what's that?' I pointed out to the odd, shimmering, gold, nob attached to the wall.
'Looks like a door nob. We can escape and find our friends if we can figure out how to open up that door.' Genius replied to me.
