Is there another feed store you can try? It seems like Tractor Supply Co has a lot of questionable chicks. My local feed store is definitely the place to go. They aren't perfect, either, but I trust them a lot more than TSC.

I see ads on www.craigslist.com all the time for chicks and adult chickens, this time of year. You can look at the list for your area. Check the farm+garden category, in the for sale section. You could post an ad in the buy/sell/trade section of the forum here, too.

My first set of chicks are Isa Brown sex links. I figure I'm guarnteed females that way. Geting 9 more chicks in May from a feed store. I figure if I pick out 9 roos I'll still have my female Isa's and I will have eggs this summer!!!

You could always consider buying from My Pet Chicken. The chicks are about $3 each. It costs about $25 to ship them, but you can ask for females only.

Yep, gotta be the mold spores!!

Edited to say: check out by Blue Lake Casino. There is a farm out there that was or is a pumpkin patch that had baby chicks for sale at one time. All i remember is that it is the Casino exit, take a left at the stop sign, go under the overpass/highway thingy, and it is up a dirt road...haha...i cant believe i can remember the directions... LOL
