Okay, so my neighbors have(had) three dogs: two choc labs that they got at the same time(big mistake) and a new st. bernard cross. The labs have been anti people ever since they got them, only one has ever been able to be touched even by my brother-and my brother gets along with any dog. Well, that dog is gone now. The one that's left ("Bella"-such a pretty name for an awful dog) always struck me as fearful, and she's always barking, and both of them used to recoil if I lifted my hand above my shoulder, so I think that at some point they were abused. Now, to the point.
My little brother likes to ride his bike down our long, sloping driveway. We can see every bit of it from the house. About 10 feet from the road, he is attacked by the lab. Thankfully, my brother doesn't fall off, just keeps peddling, and he got away with just a few bleeding teeth marks on his hand.
Naturally, after cleaning him up, my mom went over to talk to these people. She didn't expect to get attacked, assuming that it was the motion of the bike that set her off, as she is an avid car chaser. So, halfway across the road, the dog comes up and takes a chunk out of her behind (not really, just a lot of puncture wounds-a LOT) The people are outside. They see what happens. They do not attempt to call the dog off. They just stand out there. They apologize to my mother, but do not say what will happen to the dog, if anything.
I just spent 10 minutes bandaging my mother, and they don't do anything!!
Since this is the first day that she has bit anybody, we are letting it slide, but counting it against her strikes-dogs only get 2 in our county. Are there any other rules we should be aware of? Anything we can do the help the poor dog, or get her to somebody who can/will train her? Or is she helpless, and will have to be put down?
