I Am So Mad!!!!!!!cruddy Neighbors!!!

we had a dog skip he was not a big dog at all but that dog had the jaws of a pit bull. he was about the size of a begal if not a little smaller. he was the sweetes little thing to us but no one could come to our house at all he would try to eat them up.one night we let him out in the back yard on his leash to go potty he yipped and ran back to the door he had blood on his foot. 3 weeks later he had to be put down. I was at work dh called me skip started foaming out his mouth tried to eat dh's aunt up and then turnned on dh which he never did. the vet said more than likely he either had destimper or when he got bit that night it was by a rat and it set up rabies. SKIP HAD ALL AND I MEAN ALL OF HIS SHOTS INCLUDING HIS RABIES AND HE WAS UP TO DATE. Having a rabies tag does not mean a thing if they come in contact with an animal that has it they can still get it. I know my Skip did. You need to report it

Why are you letting these irresponsible neighbors get away with their animal attacking two people in your family?

If the wounds get infected, are you going to pay the high bill?

And you are going to let them get away with this?

These kind people on here are advising you with sage advice. Better heed, or pay the consequences of your non-actions.

The bigger question is: WHy wouldnt the mother call herself, when her child was attacked?

The OP is in a tough spot because i believe he/she is a minor and they may not want to get into trouble with mom if they call without permission. That being said..I'd STILL call! Because if your brother gets bit and REALLY hurt..AND HE WILL..it will happen! YOu are going to feel so very, VERY badly. Please make the call yourself if your parents wont. THere i said it.

What she said. If you don't want to face consequences, tell another adult who will call on your behalf. That way you aren't to 'blame.' Who's the adult you know most likely to get REALLY fired up bout this?? Tell them. Pronto. And take pics of the wounds before they heal much more.

That dog was in full attack mode when it bit your mom. the police need to be called and a trip to the Dr. is in order. Even if your brother was dangling his hand out to the dog the dog has no business biting it. This is a dog that needs to be put down, the psycological damage these people have done to the dog is too great to be fixed. Next time it will probably be one of their own kids and it will not be a pretty ending.

Good luck convincing your mom, maybe just a ring to the police and let them know what happened? You can do that even if your mom does not want to pursue the issue. They might convince her to file the needed report.

If the police, the sheriff or animal control are not called, it will not count as a strike against the dog. If it isn't reported, it didn't happen in the eyes of the law. Besides, next time it might kill somebody. Make a report and have the vet verify that the rabies tag is for that dog. You would be surprised at the number of people that let their dogs "share" tags to save on vet costs. If the dog owners are so callous that they let a mean dog run loose and don't call it off while it is attacking, then why should anybody care if they get upset about being turned in?
