I am so sick of this .... (mini rant)

Honestly, I would consider this an honor and you are a blessing to those around you. There are a lot of ignorant, worn out, people out there and they make a lot of horrible decisions.

We too are one of those types of homes..you have been called to be a light for these animals..don't waste your energy on being angry..you will never change these people...use your energy to be thankful you can do this and you play a part in these animals lives..hugs.

I mean really, how hard would it be to just feed the poor animal??

At the least, he came to you, who knew what to do with him. I know it breaks your heart, but you saved his life.

Bless you for that.

I agree.

Bless you for taking care of the animals that are brought to you! It may not be easy, but you are a beacon of light to animals whose lives otherwise might be over.

And I have to say this--the individuals who brought these animals to you may have done so out of desperation, not because they're irresponsible. Don't assume someone is irresponsible because their animal is hungry. Instead of letting their animal starve, they brought it where they knew someone would take care of it, and I can imagine it was a heartbreaking decision for whomever it was. It could be someone who has already lost their job and everything else (you'd have to be living under a rock to not know that our economy is collapsing and people who once fluorished with nice homes and good incomes are scraping to get by and having to abandon and give up beloved pets).

I would never, ever assume that someone left an animal with me because they were irresponsible. If they were UNABLE to care for it and feed it any longer, taking it to someone who can care for it is the most responsible thing they could do.

And as far as "They could have paid the $40 to take it to SPCA" (paraphrasing)... if they're barely getting by and can't afford to feed their dog, what makes you think they have $40 to surrender the animal?

I'm only saying this because, while I have not lost or had to give up any of my animals, we had suffered horrible loss. Three years ago, we were making $80,000 a year between us, living in a nice 3-bedroom house in the suburbs and never lacked for money. My job was eliminated, then my husband lost his job, and we are living on approximately 1/3 of what we were living on 3 years ago. Because of the losses we have experienced, I have deep compassion for someone else who has suffered similar or worse losses.

Again, bless you for taking in this poor animal. And try to send up prayers that God will send help for the unfortunate humans who had no choice but to leave their beloved family pet tied to the stoop of an invidual they knew would care for their pet and save his life.

I would get a camera, even if its a "dummy" camera. And put up a real sign saying, property under surveillance. Trespassers will be prosecuted.
Let us know what happens.
AND call the humane society and tell them that you have had an abandoned animal dumped at your home.. OR the local police. Take pics of the dog tied to your porch/home and then get it in, and feed it.
You should NOT have to pay to have them taken in.

Sorry about your troubles. But I just have to say it's a good thing they're getting dumped at a place where they will be taken care of. But still some people are so ridiculous.

A word of advice, some animals that get dumped usually have issues. Not everyone vaccinates and takes good care of animals. I would never bypass quarantine with them just like with chickens.

People like that are sickos....just sick sick people. Karma is a witch... and it will find them.

I've taken drop offs to our shelter and refused to pay. They may get a little huffy but I say very simply, if this was my pet I would do the responsible thing and pay for its care however this is not my animal. I am simply trying to help and if you do not want to take it I will leave on the street where it was. They always take it. I do support them as much as possible but I am not dropping $50 per animal each time someone else decides to be a jerk.

This also works with Animal Control. My freind and his neighbor were arguing over a barking dog, AC shows up and threatens him with a fine, he asked where he could take the animal to have them put down and she backpedaled real fast and did nothing about the call.
