Now why would you jump on someone excited about her new additions? I am more then sure she has thought this through like every other member on this forum. This is not craigslist where you feel you need to educate and lecture people of your ideas about animals and how they should, in your opinion, be cared for and who should be allowed to have them. I think it is great that you have raised so many birds to the standard of perfection, but most of us are happy with our "mutts" and dont really cared what breed they are as long as they are healthy. These are our pets and we all love them just as you would your "standard of perfection" flock.

IMOP, you really need to talk to the rest of the forum with a little respect!

Actually being a responsible parrot owner/breeder for 29 years, I'm well aware of the responsibility that goes along with raising animals. We have a 30x50ft barn that is being converted into a chicken coop as we speak.

Our initial thought was to build a chicken coop. Then my husband said that its crazy to build an additional structure when we had this barn already sitting there, with electricity to it. It needs beefing up, and that's what we're doing now.

I know alot of people get involved in things that they haven't thoroughly thought through. I, for one, am NOT one of those people. Moving to TN, having our own homestead, raising chickens for food and eggs and some just to look at has always been on my agenda.

Yes, I love the cuteness of my chicks. The cute fuzziness and the plaintive peeps makes my heart sing! At the end of the day though, there are brooders to clean, waterers that need to be sterilized and replaced, feeders sterilized and replaced, eventually a coop to be cleaned, etc etc.

It all goes along with responsible animal ownership. One I'm proud to do!

OK you guys made me crack up. I asked my hubby if I meet him at the door naked with a beer and pizza could I get more chickens? He laughed and said I would never do it and would just get the chickens anyway but sure if there was a chance....

He doesn't care as long as I take care of them but he helps me. He is such a good hubby and you are right who listens to them anyway.. but I love him...

I ment no disrespect and having pets is great but guess I realizedthe responsibility they were
I am sure you all enjoy them as I did
so please accept my apology if I hurt any oes feelings
With the new nais bill going to be voted to go thru I hope you all will still be able to keep your pets
the chicken fancy needs every one and you all are an important part of chickens
I am surprised that so many can keep chickens as here in rural South Dakota we are not allowed chickens in the city limits and we are two miles from town
in a agriculture area

It isn't like when Iwas raised on a working farm
we all had chickens
my mother kept 500 laying hens as a source of income for many decades
so enjoy the chicks and chickens as you can

Thank you, I sure will, lol. He probably won't even notice them till they are out in the run two months from now since he never goes near the laundry room (where their brooder is)

Like you, I love the work that comes with having animals. I grew up with animals. I have a zoo, that is for sure, but they all live like royalty. They all get quality food, a warm bed/coop, excellent medical care and love every single minute of the day...and that is for every single animal I have. Not to mention my children are learning responsibility and love in the purest form. I don't even mind all the housework they create for me. I basically have no life, lol but I enjoy it and it does keep me home and out of trouble

I clean my entire house, yard and coop every day. Having and taking care of animals is my calling in life...my relaxation and my reward to myself. I deserve it

They are soo cute!! Congradulations on your soon to be fine coop!

My coop looks like Snoopy's dog house! I have severe coop envy! But its size keeps me from being on the divorced list, I can only fit 3 birds in it.

I had a chance to buy a fine looking bantam cochin rooster yesterday but had to turn it down.

I am still kicking myself about that.
