I am tired of them being in the house.

I don't mind the chicks being in the house, but I am sure tired of being in the house.

Start cruising Craigslist for used greenhouses. I bought on last year for $100. It took a little work to move and put back together, but now I have a 12ft x 14ft chicken brooder. The chicks go out in the Greenhouse at 3 weeks. They have access to a heat lamp for the night time, but the rest of the day they are protected from the weather and aerial predators. They even have a low ranking Roo who 'mothers' them. He LOVES the attention too. They stay in the greenhouse until about 8-10 weeks, then out with the main flock. Seriously, its the best $100 that I ever spent!

I really liked them in the house the first 2 weeks...but now the dust is insane and I slept on the couch last night cause the whole family is sick except me and I swear I didnt sleep a wink with all the noise outta that box! They were 3 weeks yesterday. Too cold to put them in the coop even with it shuttered. It is 45-60 during the day but 30-38 at night. I havent let mine out though cause there is no where enclosed to let them go and I cant imagine trying to catch them all to bring em back in the house either.

They are driving me crazy right now. They are so loud. I can see the dust coming out the top of the box from here everytime they jump around. Come on warmer weather or more feathers!

I just read a recent post that a person keeps her/his chicks outside and it's in the negative degrees where they are at. They put a heat lamp in the coop and after 4 wks another person stopped using the heatlamp and their chicks are doing great. They weren't even huddled up together.

How often are your brooders cleaned? With fresh pine shavings and newspaper every day, there's barely any smell or dust at all. I can definitely understand wanting the chicks out of the house, though. If the snow lasts much longer ((what am I saying? We have snow until May sometimes!) I'll have to figure out a room to designate just for their use! And just when my mom thought she was finally getting a guest room....

This last week I have cleaned their brooder every day and it is just so dusty. We use crushed corn cob bedding because it is more absorbant Any way they will be in a brooder out side in the coop. They will be fine! I might leave lil Roo roo in the house since he is so little yet
