My friend has wanted me to read Twilight with her for a long time. Although I knew it was fluff literature, I thought it would be fun to read. um....no....I am having trouble getting past the fact that I HATE the main character.

I was and am a shy person, so, I should like Bella and her awkwardness. Instead, I find myself wondering how she keeps friends when she is so self centered. She has no gratefulness for anyone's kindness toward her. Everyone seems to go out of their way to be nice to her and she shows no appreciation. And in what kind of highschool does EVERYONE like the shy, unfriendly, clumsy girl? Shouldn't there be at least one jerk in her school? How the heck does she have so many boys in love with her?

Someone please tell me that I will like this girl better. It is difficult to read a book when you are hoping that the vampire eats the main character so that you don't have to read about her anymore.

I promised my friend that I would make it through this series. Sigh.

For those of you who love these books, I understand. We all like some books that aren't anything but entertaining fluff but please tell me that Bella becomes a more likable character as the book progresses. I am only at the part where she in the ER after the car accident.

I do love that she is bad at sports. Volley ball was torturous for me because I have an intense fear of anything coming toward my head and always ducked when the ball came at me.

Tell me that I won't spend the entire series hating this character, please. She must experience some growth as a human being, right?

I would say that my dislike is because I am too old for this book but I have several friends who like the series.

Sorry, I can't tell you anything because I lost interest half way through. I was reading another book at the same time and I liked it better.

Someday I'll read the rest.....

Hmm...I did read all of the Twilight books, but not with the same gusto that a lot of others did... I don't know how much "personal growth" happens to Bella, but overall I did like the books. Not enough to watch the movies though!

And nope, she does not get eaten by the vampires!!

Sorry. I read the whole series for a friend as well, and I hate to tell you this, but she gets more and more unlikeable, and ultimately proves herself to be a pretty worthless individual, incapable of personal growth. You're in for a painful ride.

Also, if it hasn't happened already, you will get to dislike Edward. He is abusive and downright creepy. I hate saying this, but my friend claims she identifies fully with Bella, and, well, yeah, I can see that, considering her track record of getting involved with abusive, jealous, domineering men. It makes me understand why she loves the books so much, but it's very sad.

This is the second time that I have read that The Host is a better book. Maybe I will give that one a try.

I read the whole series in about 5 days. She's not a strong character, but if you concentrate on the relations in the book between the characters, the vampires, the werewolves and look at if from a different angle it's not too bad. The character in the book is better than the lousy acting of the Bella character in the movies!

Believe it or not I read the first book about half way. I work shift work, I'll read anything, even the label on a baking soda can. However I could not get through the first book, ridiculous, immature, shallow, transparent. Yes, I understand it's a novel, but it atleast should be entertaining.
