On behalf of all of us at BYC, I'd like to say that yes, we are "GUILTY"! But I must also say, that tomorrow, you will be guilty, too!!!!

So the feedstore 30 miles north of us (that's the next big town near us, since we are in the country) actually HOLDS chicks when they come in...soooo I called and told them IF they get a blue frizzle I'll take it...but if not, then to call me with the other colors they do have and I'll have to decide then....

...so you guys MIGHT have me hooked on 1 more bird...

Saying a little prayer now that IF they have a blue it's a girl!!!

I really want my chickens to all be very different colors...and that blue-grey color on the frizzles is pretty darling!

Yeah! Yeah! They come in batches of 25, so you get 25 - 50 - 75 and so on and so forth.
Just think about it. If you get one chick, you may be leaving its very best friend in the whole wide world behind. How could you do something like that to a sweet little chick??? And of course, chicks have more than one friend.....

By the way, the next step is incubating. Just PM me. I'll let you know where all the best prices for bators are on the web. I've done my reseach.

I'll keep my finger's crossed for you.

One more recommendation though - you should get two to increase your chances of getting a pullet. If you ended up only getting one and it IS a roo, then you'll rehome and end up with 2 chicks again.

I too like having a colorful batch of chicks. Makes telling them apart easier plus they are flock animals - they need buddies. They look so cute when they all sleep together or all lined up roosting. They keep each other warm.

Taken 2 wks ago when they went out in their coop prior to getting the run completed. I would bring the grass to them. They LOVE it!

Okay Gritsar ~ you have me pegged...but not for a few years...I can TOTALLY see myself getting a incubator and letting my kids experience that...but only if I could set up with the local feedstore to take them off my hands! BUT that is not for several years to come! LOL (and it will take that long to get my hubby to agree!)

Sweet Cheeks ~ darling pic...if it's a roo, I would have to rehome it because it would fertlize my hens and I can't do incubation just yet...can you get roos sterlized at the vet's office? If so, maybe he'd have a chance...OH GEES...listen to me...it's going to be a GIRL!!! and who knows if it's going to be at all! LOL

BUT for future referrence can you get a rooster 'fixed' and can you take their cock-a-doodle doo out of them with training, or any nice way?

How tough is it to rehome a rooster?

not like a dog or cat...please tell me it's easier (although tell me the truth!)

and when do they start 'mating'? would I know before that time if I had a rooster?
