I bought a mare on New Year's!

AWwwwwwww bummer! I am sure a few Andalusians or Arabian folks can help out. Either you can research the sire's owner or the dam's owner.

Do I think she's built for dressage....hm..

What kind of dressage? Have fun in the back yard on any horse dressage, or go to the Olympics dressage, or somewhere in between?

Somewhere in between? WHERE EXACTLY in between? LOL!!!

In general, I am very, very cautious about expecting 750 dollar horses to be sound for active riding, or breeding.

The most important things for dressage horses are gaits, conformation relating to movement and balance (not 'pretty pretty' or 'halter class' or even 'breed class' conformation), and temperament. Not necessarily in that order, LOL!!!!! In fact, let's reverse the order on that one.

If a person wants to do dressage as a 'fun' kind of thing, he can do it on just about any sound horse. If he wants to advance up the levels, compete or meet a standard of performance, he's got to pick very carefully, or he's going to overstrain the animal and eventually break it down. That is not fair to the animal, leave 'em doing something that they can stay comfortable at for their whole life.

The photo isn't at a good angle to evaluate her comformation, and without having a video to evaluate her gaits, I just can't even say. The biggie neck doesn't bother me, first of all because I think it's kind of an odd photograph and gives an odd impression, even of her neck, and secondly if the rest of the body is up to balancing it and carrying her around, I am not alarmed about the-neck-I-think-she-really-has. The photo isn't complementary to her hind quarters, but because of the angle and the stance, I can't be really sure exactly how she's built there.

Andalusian-Arabian crosses really cover a very, very wide spread of characteristics and build and gaits and temperaments. It's very hard to generalize about them, but I suppose I'll try to eventually, LOL.

I will be honest though, and side over to Pat's side, this is not a cross I would breed.

There are a number of breeds I wouldn't breed to anything other than their own breed. I won't list those, as I can already hear the screams of 'DIE, HERETIC, DIE!!!!' Crossbreeding is very popular, and the rest of the world obviously sees it differently than I do. The OP probably has something specific in mind she hopes to create, and I wish her all the best in doing so.

There are some cross breeds that would be better off not procreate while others do pretty well. Genetics in horses are vast and sometimes we just don't know exactly what we are getting when we do another outcrossing of a different breed. Either you would have a very lovely foal or butt ugly one but like the OP said, if it did not come out to her expections, goals or needs, the breedings will not be repeated.

Ewe sheep, I tend to reach way, way too far in finding day to day occasions to use lines from 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' or the comedy routines of Emo Phillips.
