Update regarding Saffron. You kind folks identified this bird as a pullet earlier in the summer, when s/he was six weeks. I'm now getting a bit concerned that it's a cockerel. Bird is 12 weeks now. Possibly Red Star? Tail feathers and comb are more pronounced than my other birds (same age, different breeds though) and s/he pecks my dog if the dog approaches the other birds (therefore dog is nervous around this one). And she's noisy! Thoughts on gender once again? I'm a newbie!

Hello There Fellow Mainer,

Nice to meet you! :D
I happened to be on this thread when I noticed your post.

I am probably not the person you are referring to that had helped you.
But if you don't mind I would be glad to try and help you.

I hate to admit it, but, it looks like a really handsome young cockerel! I can't get over the colors. And I am afraid it's a 'he'.

I have a funny feeling you have a New Hampshire red rooster. A bit too light to say Rhode Island Red, looks like a NH.

Wishing you the best of luck on your journey! And welcome to it!

Sincerely Your New Friend,
~The Angry Hen

Cockerel

Sorry I said pullet before, sometimes it's hard to accurately sex a chicken until it's 10-12 weeks old.

He's a Production Red. Red Star males are white with some red leakage. And why I always say "No obvious cockerels, yet." 6 weeks is just too young to be sure.

Well... y'all were right. Emily is a boy. McMurray refunded my money for the chick and a partial refund on the shipping (he was one of two - the other one got coccidiosis and died in spite of "vaccine" and corid). I'm pretty disappointed. I can't have a rooster and I'm having a really hard time finding him a home. Seems a shame to send him to freezer camp since it's a nice breed, but I'm running out of time. Or he is.

These are my ISA browns that I bought at Tractor Supply in April. They are about 5 months old. The darker girl is obviously a pullet and that is what 5 out of my 7 look like. The other two are throwing me through a loop though. From what I have read, the more white there is means that it is a rooster. I have not seen much rooster behavior from these two though. Not a peep out of them.

All females. Males feather in solid white and develop red as they mature in their male specific feathering only.

4 Easter eggers. Person I just got them from didn't take care of them properly. They are missing a lot of feathers. Supposed to be almost 4 months but they are 1/2 the size of my others the same age. Any ideas on the sex? I am not sure if these pictures are good enough.

They are about 8 weeks old. No way are they 4 months, even if they had not been cared for properly. #1 is your only pullet.

He wAs suppose to be a she, but as time went one he grew bigger and prettier , and then started crowing! He's almost 3/4 months old now!
My question is we have buff orpington hens can we breed them with our easter egger ?!? He's just so beautiful!
And our buffs are so fluffy and friendly I have no idea on breeding
