Thank you so much for your responses can I ask what everyone is looking at to determine it. I'm trying to learn as much as I can.Pullets.
Age??Silver Laced Wyandotte sold to me as a female, but I'm starting to have doubts. Cockrel or pullet?
Cockerels have big combs early. Pullets don't get big, red combs until they are coming up to a laying age. Cockerels usually get theirs at 4 or 5 weeks.Thank you so much for your responses can I ask what everyone is looking at to determine it. I'm trying to learn as much as I can.
Looks like a pullet so farThis is Pheobe. She is 13 weeks old tommorow. Bearded buff laced chamois polish. From day one she has had a very large smooth rounded crest, beautifully calm temperament etc. She was one of 6 hatched, 2 of which are very obvious cockerels from early one. Her crest in these photos looks a bit wild as there was a pecking order dispute and she had a fair amount of feathers "removed" by Snowflake (who was very sorry for her behaviour upon reflection) so shes currently regrowing but her crest is super round and smooth usually. Her hackles and saddle feathers are rounded, her tail feathers are growing and evening out in length each day. She has slight red in wattle area which I know can happen with pullets sometimes and her mum had that.
However
She is such a hetic, bossy little thing. She keeps an eye on all the other young chickens, especially her best friend our ayam cemani (also no clue on its gender) and displays some cockerel traits.
No crowing and too young to lay. Very vocal but in a clucky husky voice.
I'm stumped. Layer developing cockerel? Pullet taking on leadership role due to lack of cockerel?
She was 11 weeks in these photos. Her tails evened out and hair grown back a bit but no other changes. You can see her crest is patchy in photos. Sorry for essay! Any ideas? Tia xView attachment 2254157View attachment 2254159View attachment 2254162View attachment 2254164
CockerelPlease also any ideas for my ayam cemani? I've put in a photo of the mum and dad below two photos of him/her. Very quiet bird, doesnt enjoy handling, was a feisty youngster but settled by 6 weeks when let outside. Follows the polish chicken everywhere and panics when it's not in sight. Again no crow or eggs yet. Only ever vocal when you catch it. Wattles and comb havent grow in size the past 4 weeks.

I’m thinking that you have one cockerel and one pulletHi,I have two 6 week old BCM chicks... I know they’re still very young, but anyone got an idea of the sex of these...View attachment 2255349View attachment 2255350View attachment 2255351View attachment 2255352View attachment 2255353
Cockerel. Pointed saddle and shoulder feathers as well as large, bright red comb.I think he’s a cockerel but can you explain why? He doesn’t have pin feathers. 4 month old LF blue Cochin.
Most likely a cockerelEE bought as a sexed pullet but I think it’s a boy 8 weeks old - just want to confirm before I rehome.
Leaning towards cockerelI ordered 2 female Ameraucana through Murray McMurray and I believe this 7-week-old is one of them. Green legs and pea comb. Is this a cockerel? These are pics of the same bird. (The pure white bird in the pics)View attachment 2256653View attachment 2256655View attachment 2256656View attachment 2256658 LView attachment 2256653
How old are they?
Looking like pullets so far, but I’m not certain yetAny thoughts on these two chicks both 6 weeks old. Of all the siblings we have a few clear boys with big red pea combs and 3 that really look like pullets but I cant tell these two. They both dont have much of a comb but the light one has the longest fullest tail and a weird color difrent from the boys and girls. The little chipmonk is a clear runt 1/2 the size of the rest so I cant really compare.View attachment 2257173View attachment 2257174View attachment 2257175View attachment 2257176View attachment 2257177View attachment 2257179View attachment 2257181
