Can you vent sex chickens the same way you do with ducklings?
I took on 4 youngsters from my local farm as they are over run and I took what I believed were hens, I don't know the breeds as they are all cross bred to produce hatchlings for schools as projects for the children.

What is the earliest that you can tell? I bought these 2 polish and they are close to 2 weeks. I'm really curious. I think it's funny that the tail feathers are different. Makes me think at least one is a roo.

Does anyone see any signs yet of cockerels?
They are 4 weeks old. I think one of the Rhode Island Reds might be a cockerel but I'm not sure.

I can provide more pictures if needed. Also thanks for taking a look at them! :)

I picked up this red chicken about 6 weeks ago. She came from the feed store and had a huge gaping hole pecked in the side of her neck and a hurt leg. She's doing perfect now. I do not know the breed or the sex. I think it was an Ideal straight run. She doesn't look like my red sex links. At least I hope it's a she.

Hi! A friend of ours gave us 3 "laying hens", and they should start laying in the next couple of weeks. However, I am starting to think the Rhode Island Red is a rooster. It's much bigger than the Barred Rock and Cinnamon Queen we have. Also this morning it was grabbing a couple of the other hens on the back of the neck. All the "experts" my husband talks to are saying the RIR is a hen, but I'm not sure I agree. Please let me know what your opinion is! Thank you in advance!
