I agreed to bake my own wedding cake!

We weren't even going to have a cake. We're having a small ceremony with only my fiance's DDs, one SIL and the GS in attendance.
Yet, yesterday walking around in Walmart, my fiance' blurts out what about our wedding cake? If you knew the man, you'd know how bizarre it is that he even asked.
I haven't done a wedding cake in 15 years!
My Dad is the professional baker in the family. What have I gotten myself into?

There are a few options.

1) Ask your dad to make it.
2) Since the reception is small, a small nice cake would probably work.
3) Ask Miss_Jayne for advice
4) Repetitsio mater studiorum. (Repetition is the mother of learning)

Good luck!

I would ask my dad, but he lives in Florida.
I've agreed to make it IF I can do a practice cake first.
That's two outta the four right?

I'm doing my own cake too for my wedding this August. Well, I'm doing cupcakes! 25 guests, 25 cupcakes, placed on a three tiered dessert platter. I'm going to use stencils of our first initials and dust them on with powdered sugar or chocolate. Nice and simple!

3, maybe. But practice cake baking and decorating so you can be super good! And if one botches, make frosting and eat it! Good luck! You the champ!

DD made her own cake for her wedding this January-- for 150 guests!

It was square layers in shape and had minimal decorations. It was decorated mostly with real flowers.
She practiced a few times with recipes and icing until she was happy with it, using small cakes.
Visit the Wilton aisle in any arts & crafts store or wally world. You will be amazed at the helpful things out there!

i think that will be kinda cool! i wish i had the talent to have baked my own wedding cake instead of paying $300 for one! have fun!

My mother did not make her wedding cake, but she is making her 5oth Anniversary Cake in July, I cracked up her response: "If I want a good cake I have to make it"

Just look at it like that, you want a good one , right?

Enjoy the practice cake!

Thanks for the encouragement y'all.
I'll post pics when I get the practice cake done.
I think my fiance' has an ulterior motive. There hasn't been a cake in this house since he started his diet last month.
