Thanks for the laugh! Hopefully "Doodle Boy" will remember his tramatic grooming experience and settle back down! I don't leave my roos alone in the cold. My Hubby would...without a second thought!(Of course if it were up to him our punk roo would have been soup a lOOONG time ago)
Anywho...my two banty boys only fight with each other that's why they are in their tractors(and the one little white punk boy fights with us relentlessly(chickie football punt does not register in his tiny brain!) so they each have their own hens in with them to snuggle with and keep warm...they are gentlemen to their ladies just not so nice to each other! Hoping that in time they will settle down(old age does that to all of us)!!! I think you're doing a great job with Thor Boy!(For what it's worth!)
I would pen her up till she stops bleeding. I would also put a bale of straw outside and let them have at it. They'll tear it apart and it will give them something to walk on other than snow.
If you lock him up he'll only get more fiesty.
Nick and Eric got into it and Nick got the worst. I penned him up over night til the bleeding stopped and then put him back w/ the girls. ( it's a long story).
The other thing is put a "red" light in the coop even if you don't need the heat. I suppose you could just use a red light bulb.
I got 2 chicken saddles made and 10 more cut out. I put the first 2 on the most "used" hens. Boy, that was fun. Thor got handled today. He doesn't like that. To bad.
Today was nice 33* so everyone but Belle was out. The coop got up to 52* so I am sure she was comfy.

Thanks for the straw idea, I have to go to the feed store this week so I will get one. They do have pine shavings too walk on but I think the straw will keep them busy too.
I am going to go get a bale of straw also...I figure it will keep everyone occupied and hopefully busy...I think I need more hens also!...Hmmm I think I can take care of that one!
One of the hens that has the saddle looks a little slow this morning. I don't think she likes the saddle. The other hen with the saddle has the big scab, ewww. It is healing fine, it just looks gross. Everyone seem OK otherwise.

Well, the way I see it is .............. There is more than one way to skin a cat.
I really will exhaust all possibilities before I have to be the "bad guy". But when I do I summons the cave woman within, get in the right frame of mind and let me tell you, I can do a whole flock of meaties with out coming up for air in a reasonable time. I like things peaceful and will do what I can to make it so.
So if that means that I vent, freak out, and all round over react, well let it be. Especially if it means ol' Thor boy get a stay of execution.
