Another thing I like about the straw, which I have in the run, is that when I throw the scratch around in the morning they have to "dig" to get it. That keeps them occupied.
 
Got all the saddles on the girls. Boy was that funny. Some didn't mind and some are still in reverse.

I was looking at the pictures of your birds and couldn't see any stirrups on the saddles. Where are the jockeys supposed to put there feet?

I would trade him to someone for a different rooster. I used to butcher the excess roosters but got tired of it. Now I just let them do whatever they want. I have three roosters and 7 hens. The alpha rooster is too busy chasing the other roosters to be too much of a mating problem with the females. Good luck with whatever you choose. Sorry to hear about your hen.
