I have been out of work for over two years. I have a solid Work History. But since I am looking at different options since my former "Industry" is not the best place right now. I have not even gotten called back for interviews.
I suspect being a 48 Year old, White Woman has some to do with it.

I have worked solidly since I was 16, have only been "let go" once. My Last job I was on over 2 years when they went out of business, job before that I was there 10 years.

I have above average computer skills, excellent Customer Service , Sales and Office Skills. I can use Excel, Power Point, some accounting programs. I type fairly quickly and can do 10 key by touch. I have management experience too.

Any suggestions?

I have applies everywhere from Wal-Mart to Grocery Stores to Fast Food. Looked for both Full-Time and Part-Time. I just need a job!SATE7TWIST

Not knowing how you interview, I can give you my perspective as a person who interviews.

NEVER mention things you do not like to do. Never ever, bad mouth a former employer. When someone asks tell me about yourself, they do not want to hear about your hobbies. They want you to tell them what work experiences you have had that are a success to you personally.

Also, because of the economy that the fact that employers are looking for people to work cheap AND to stay, you may want to say something along the lines of "I am looking for a work home that I can start with, grow with and just stay with. I would prefer to find a work home that I belong at for a long time to come". Someone says that to me, and their skills are what we want, they have the job.

Your age is not a factor at this point. People our age still do not understand the young up and comers and their generations' beliefs in a work place. Our age equals integrity, street smarts, life experience, and a calmness that the younger folks have not yet learned.
 
Another thing since I do alot of interviews:

Your availability will either make you or break you.

One of the first ways to get an interview is to have a completely open availability. Once you are hired you can change it around somewhat or even in the interview when the person asks if there needs to be any changes made to the information you provided.
 
That is one reason I was sweating my new license, I knew if it wasn't approved I was SOL. I'm 47, white, and on the Southern border, no way I would be hired, I've seen it too many times. I wish I had something that would help, but I don't know what industry you came from. Try and find things in your old industry that would transfer to a new one and really push it on your applications. The applications cannot ask your age, race, religion, creed, etc. Good luck!

You know Debi, I actually do all the stuff you said. First problem is getting a call back. I have not "had" to look for a job for so long (before this anyway) I am not sure of the "etiquette" should I call back to check? What is an appropriate length of time before calling? For Example: I put in an application and resume' for a Part-Time job, only 4 miles from home. They told me they would accept applications through the 15th and then call for interviews. I have not heard anything.
