I culled my first cockerel, now what?

I often put mine in the crockpot with some chicken broth, an onion, some carrots and celery and cook until the meat is falling off the bones. Let cool, remove meat from bones, remove veges, make dumplings, put meat back in, serve hot.

That sounds delicious! I'll have to look up a dumplin recipe and do that in the oven. I don't currently have a crockpot, but depending on how many wayward cockerels I have to deal with, it might be a good investment.

They run about $30 for a big one, I believe. Well worth it. Pop it in in the morning, let it cook all day. There's a dumpling recipe on the Bisquick box.

I see a real simple one at Walmart, 6-qt, for $18, no electronics, just a simple dial. That's like mine. You may have to order it if they don't have it in stock. You start going electronic, they go up to $100 range. Yikes.

This.
