I decided to let my broody sit on some eggs

I will try to give them back to her after they hatch and I’ve treated her
Do you think she’ll take them? How do I best introduce them?
I might move them all into a large box because the mites are probably living in the wood
A have a very large box (fridge or bigger size)
Good idea to treat the broody and keep her and the chicks/chickens away from the infested area.

The mites have laid mite-eggs in the cracks. The mite-eggs will come out after treatment. Repeat a few times after 7 - 10 days. Or ‘paint’ all surfaces with DE. DE doest kill the adult mites but it does kill the nymphs coming out of the mite-eggs. And keep monitoring with control rolls (ribbed paper rolls).

There is a risk the broody stops breeding in the new box. Replace her best after dark/during the night.
Introduce the chicks under the broody after dark/during the night also.

I will do all the stuff involving broody and chicks at night
I will be painting everything in DE
Day 18 tomorrow or possibly 19 so I’ll be moving eggs tomorrow

Candled eggs again today, both look great and I saw movement, but one egg looks like it’s a day or two ahead in development, and appears to possibly have an internal pip, the egg is completely dark except for larger air cell and a round shape bobbing into the air cell on one side, no clear beak but it looks like the head in pushing
Other egg is mostly full but can still see veining on it and a little clear space
Should I move them to the incubator sooner than tomorrow night?

ok I can but my incubator has only been on for 6 hours, I thought you were meant to wait 24 before putting eggs in

I have no experience with incubators only with broodies. I have been reading you should leave the eggs to rest the last days before hatch. So at day 19 this is rather late.

Maybe its better than to spray/dust the hen now and move the hen with the chicks while it’s still night. Have the incubator running /brooder ready in case a problem occurs.

The mites live on your hen in the dark. So you might move a few with the hen to the new box. If you can change again to new box after the chicks hatch it should be okay too. But keep monitoring. Adding a mix of sand with DE under the bedding does the chicks no harm.

Is alright I figured it out, the eggs are in the incubator and infertile eggs under broody
It’s only supposed to be day 17, anyway no going back now
