I detest cable....

When the Sponge Bob theme song comes on I just cringe! I don't even get a chance to look over at my son, and he says, " I know! I'm changing it!"!!

That Sponge Bob laugh will give you nightmares! It just sticks in your head .... like the song from the It's a Small World ride at Disneyland! Argh ...... (running to cover my head from the memories)

If you foks are getting DishNetwork , that is satellite. I have had satellite for the past 4 years and I live in a rural area. It seems that everytime we get a bad storm, really cloudy skies or alot of interferance from planes that the satellite goes out! I am so tired of losing signal here and can not wait for my contract to be up in a month and a half. The folks across the street have cable and they have never lost the signal. Even in the tornado that went through 3 years ago and hit our house and touched theirs, they had cable the nest day. We had to wait a week, for someone to come out, install an new dish (expensive!) and then come back out to re-align the dish for signal 2 times. I unfortunately have Wild Blue for my internet and the signal goes out way too much for me, the tech support is NO support most of the time and there are 2 sites that I use daily and I seem to lose them and only them for a week at a time every month or two, because they get a broken link somewhere and Wild Blue just can not seem to ever figure it out each time. What is even worse is I have a friend in Colorado, also has Wild Blue and he loses the same sites, the same time and the same amount of down time, and we both get them back up at the same time too. and Wild Blue says it is not their system? Go figure.

lovemychicks9 , we have Wild blue for the computer and its bad. If a cloud goes by it ruins the connection. Sometimes I think bird farts as birds are flying by mess it up also!

I wouldn't recommend WildBlue to anyone.

Henrietta23, sorry!

LOL, those annoying things do stick with you don't they?

So today the cable company shows up to change us over from dial-up. Only the guy says he can't do it because there's no cable connection in the room where the computer is. DH ASKED about that specifically when he scheduled this and was told there didn't need to be one. The guy starts saying he needs to drill a hole in my house and run extra cable from the outside box. Then when I say I'm calling DH to come home early to deal with this, the guy goes to his truck to call the office, comes back and says their "system is down" so he can't do it anyway. He gets in the truck and drives away before DH gets here. DH gets home, calls again and is told that the guy lied, he doesn't need to go drilling holes in my house! They rescheduled for Friday but she said the local installers would have to call us within 24 hours to let us know exactly what time they'd come. DH said they shouldn't come before 3 so he can be here. No call yet. They were suppose to be here today between 1 and 3 and he showed up at 2:55!
THEN I get the newspaper with the bus routes and my son ISN'T on it! So I have to call and bug the school again tomorrow after I already did today because they still hadn't told me who his teacher is going to be. Which has nothing to with cable but I needed to vent about that too. Luckily all this happened AFTER my job interview this morning. I was nervous enough!

Although I would love to have some channels that you get through cable, the problem is the commercials. Even on the 'good' channels, like the history and discovery channels, there's always some chick lathering up in the shower, or some ad with a guy being inappropriate, or something. I've even seen them on Cartoon Network. The cons outweigh the pros for me, so we will continue being cable-less.

I don't have WildBlue, but I use OpenDNS for my DNS rather than what come's as default with my service. No worries if you don't know what DNS is, just know that it should help if your problems are more with certain sites not working rather then your whole internet service. They have not had any down time since they launched in like 2004. Its free, and they have instructions that are easy to follow to use it. It requires zero software installed on your computer. Best of all you get bonus free phishing protection.
No I don't work for them or anything like that, they are just awesome, plus Open software is something I prefer(I write this as I use Ubuntu and Firefox on my PC.).
