I did it! (barred rock 'after' pic included)

Oh I wish I wasn't such an Oscar Meyer Weiner!! We take ours and have them processed but ideally want to try it my self my broilers are 3weeks maybe I'll get up the courage

Nice read.
Thinking of getting 10-15 birds to raise out for meat myself. What are the preferred breed for meat and what is the best feed to get weight on? I would like to dress them in 6 months starting with chicks.

It depends on where you get them from, some lines get even bigger, dress out over 6 on average. I have had some runts dress at 3.0 and big ones at 6.5-pounds. Those look like mini turkeys. Personally, I don't care for the CRX, but most people raise them for meat. There are also Freedom Rangers, a colored hybrid that people are using more now that are bred to do better at free range and dress out around 12-weeks, I believe. Not sure what weights they are getting though.

Are ya'll hijacking my thread?? lol j/k the meaties that I have now are almost a week old and they are already very VERY lazy. They lay down to eat and just don't really do much. After these I don't think I will be raising cornish x again. They just don't seem very natural to me. I really want to try the freedom rangers but I don't need 25.
