I was a complete newbie to young chickens when I let my face get too near a very curious one. She ran around the coop run with my contact lens in her beak! Thankfully I nailed her and got it back unripped.
Sooner or later, chickens will grow up enough to learn what's worth pecking and what's not.
That reminds me of an encounter I once had with a screech owl. I was sitting in a tree stand and fully camoflaged. The owl lit on a branch only inches from my face. I sat there thinking how cool to see an owl this close as I watched him raise, lower, and turn his head. My fascination ended when I realized it was my eye that had his attention.
He didn't actually peck me in the eye.....just thought about it! I was squinting to avoid losing an eyeball LOL. I don't usually let them that close to my face, but that bird was obsessed with sitting on my shoulder.
This is what I usually look like....until they turn..........then I squint!
I love taking ridiculous pictures with chickens on my shoulders then posting to facebook. My relatives think I am insane.......
Mine fly up on my shoulders all the time, but no one is ever around to take a pic.
Thankfully, mine seem more interested in preening my hair than eating my eye.
My family and non-chicken friends all think I'm insane. But they thought that long before I got chickens
I had one get me! He was setting on my shoulder while I was giving treats. I didn't even have to look at him. He just reached around and POW!!! IT did hurt! Not his fault, my stupidity!!! LOL
Well we do have that absolutely fascinating black spot in our eye (pupil) that is constantly changing size, moving around, appearing and disappearing as we blink. Oh my! There's two of them! Let's share!
