You have come to the right place, BYC is full of chicken enablers and I, for one, say go for it!!

Keeping chickens has its ups and downs but the ups definitely outweigh the downs and now you have joined the best chicken site ever, you will have lots of people able to help you out and answer questions.

Definitely get chickens they are awesome! Before you spend a ton of money on a coop and run I would let them free range and just have a coop for them at night. Mine have never run away. Not sure what your land is like but they love to roam.
