I have an iPhone and I love it.
I also have an iPad and keep my chicken journal on it. I can sit outside near my run with either and check on BYC, write, design my next quilt, whatever. I LOVE reading books on my iPad.
I can take quick photos of the chicks with my iPhone. I also like the GPS, texting, and other apps that I use.
Its a matter of choice. I dont see how people can live without at least a cell phone. They can be life savers. My kids use them and they no longer have an excuse not to at least text me to tell me where they will be.
My DH could not use the blackberry because the buttons are too small. It also wasn't logical. The iPhone is VERY intuitive. So once he got one the entire family got them over the next year. I have three in college and they NEED them.
So yes, in general you dont need them, but I bet, once you try, you will be hooked.. mmwaahhhhahah
