I dont know what this is....

I am visiting my Gram in NY and we were going through some of Grandpa's things for keepsakes and we dont know what this is.

As you can see in the pic, the middle piece screws into the piece on the left and then the piece on the right screws into the now put together piece. The chain is attached securely to both ends so whatever it is for can only be useful if it is in these separate pieces.

Anyone?

It looks like a dog whistle to me...

That's the first thing that came to mind for me also, some sort of call whistle dog or otherwise.

Several things we could come up with:

Toothpick holder-clean teeth---we have seen one very similar to this one but it was more of early 1900's.
sample pick (like we use toothpicks to sample fruits)
snuffer---it would have a tiny spoon at the end but we dont see that.
tiny screwdriver...good one!


dont think it would be a dog whistle...no air blow holes to let air escape

It was the dog whistle that Grandpa used for his beloved Tucker.
Grandma just gifted it to my son. So, he is the only great grandson who has a momento.

I was going to say it looks like a tie chain--they were popular in the 80's--the chain hangs just under the knot.
