I didn't look as I have seen it before. I find it no more offensive this time than I did last. Are you only looking for comments that support your opinion that this is a horrible horrible situation. There are about 50,000 people on this board that buy chicks from hatcheries that have a similar way of handling their chicks.

Human babies get cracked on the butt when they are born to get them to cry (I assume Doc's still do this) can't see this as a horrible way of treating a baby chick, sorry.

Again weary weary weary of a group that is so closely connected to agriculture that finds so many ways to criticize it. So just want to be clear that I dont think this video represents a situation that is cruel.

Would it be nice if they were treated like a small back room hatcher? Maybe it would but then you can bet chicks will be double the price and eggs will cost more and chicken will cost more.

Pretty presumptous to think that everyone should pay more for product based on a bias about how chicks should be hatched.

no im not looking to have every one agree with me i really dont care.

you dont have any kids do you? they most certainty do not "crack" babies on the butt if there not breathing when they come out they give them oxygen and rug there back.

I think it looks worse than it really is. Babies are a lot more sturdy than you think. Most newborn animals bones are so rubbery you could bounce them or bend them without hurting them. They're mostly fluff at that point anyway. Theres a bird here in S.FL that lays its egg (yes, just one) on black roof tops because it helps keep the egg warm. When the egg hatchees the bird looks like one of those dandelion puffs. The mother literally throws the baby off the roof top (because it's now too hot up there for it) and because the baby is all fluff it just floats down to the ground. The mom then moves the baby a short distance to a more suitable spot and continues to take care of the baby there.

BTW, what kind of birds are those that they can be feather sexed like that?

ETA: Seeing the way they're handled though explains why every hatchery chick I've ever bought hates being handled.

I finally broke down and watched the video...
Yeah..i dont blame you for not liking the video.. its was pretty disturbing. And my husband agreed with me after watching it too...
So glad that i dont buy from hatcheries anymore!!
Whether people consider chickens "livestock" or not... they still DESERVE to be treated more kindly than they are in that video. Even if you are going to eat your birds (which i have NO problem with at all..).. you treat them right until you put them down HUMANELY!!!!...
Bet if those were puppies on that belt.. folks would be ALL up in arms about it...
WHY is it any different? Dont chickens have nerves that feel pain like every other animal?
How people can be so cruel is beyond me... its truly scary.
