I prefer the battery operated ones, only because my coop is mostly shaded, and therefore the solar powered only work early morning - I ran to CVS and picked up battery operated ones for 20 bucks- but I'm sure if you look on Amazon they would have something also.

If I'd get one of the two, I'd probably get the battery ones, cause I've found that solar powered things don't do well unless they're in full sun.

I've got different ages ranging from 1 1/2 - 8yo.
But the two that passed the EE roo was 4ish yo and my Welsummer was only 1 1/2 yo. Much too young for them to pass.
