i am the one that this just happened to today. i would not care if rosey never laid another egg. the vet said we couldnt eat her eggs for 35 days. i said i dont care about the eggs as long as she gets ok. she still has to get well but the eggs is out. i cried my eyes out. she is my sweetest hen i love her bunches. just hoping maybe she wont lay for at least a week. this was her first egg too.

oh good, im so glad you were able to find a vet and shes doing better! Keep me updated, I posted on you original thread very worried!

You know, it really is a rare condition otherwise there wouldn't be so many chickens. Relax and let things happen. We never post if it all happens the way it's supposed to, only if it doesn't.

It is wonderful to read about all the special chickens out there! I have had 11 hens and two roosters. In the last 10 years, NONE of the hens has ever had an egg get stuck.
I do give my hens a bowl of oyster shell calcium next to their water dish. I also keep them in a fenced area where there are no dogs or other animals to cause them stress.
Good quality food, lots of fresh water, oyster shell calcium (you can find that at pet stores) and a CALM environment will keep a hen laying smoothly!

Your post doesn't say where you are from but around here Cream Legbars run 1,399. dollars a pair from Greenfire Farms. They won't have any eggs available till the end of 2012, if then. I would be worried if I spent that much on a chicken. From what I've read the production breeds seem to have more problems with egg laying defects that other breeds. In fact the only hen I had a problem with was a Red Star or red sex link.

You can stop her! You can simulate winter and stop them laying!
My Faverolle prolapses and I made her a 'bedroom' which is a dark box in the coop with a roost in it. I put her in there at 5:30 at night and take her out at 8am in the morning. It is working so far and she hasn't laid for a month. All the others are laying almost every day (it's spring in Aus at the moment) and there are no issues with re-introducing her because she gets to mingle with her flock every day

so you keep her in the room from 5 at night til 8 in the morning? and you let her out all of the other hours of the day?

yep. She'll get max 11hrs of light (out in the run with her flock) a day, the same as in winter. When winter comes around I'll just let her sleep with everyone else. Then back into the box when days get longer again.
