I feel a huge loss.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I hope my little boy will be able to remember her without crying, as one of the other members said, he is not ready to talk about her yet. I will always miss her, I wish you all could have seen how funny she was, walking on her leash, and playing dead. What an odd chicken! I think she understood we were there for her at the end, it seemed to me that her last quiet clucks, she was saying goodbye. It is good to tell people who understand how I feel, and I will share your thoughtfulness with my son.

Oh no...I'm so very sorry for your loss. It's really difficult to lose one of our feathered babies, especially when they are so close to us. I really can't stand it when people have the nerve to tell me "it's just a chicken." Well my "just a chicken" means as much or more to me than "just your dog or cat, or whatever." Try not to let that get to you. There are tons of us here who feel just like you do. Again, I'm sorry for your loss and may your girl rest peacefully.

I sure am sorry you lost your girl. It hurts so bad to lose them.

My son Tony is 29 tomorrow and he still remembers fondly his favorite white cochin hen "betsy", who was a wonderful chicken. She followed Tony all over the yard, even would go in his bike basket as he rode around our farm on his bicycle.
Those are bonds and memories of childhood that helps shape our children into the wonderful men and women of the future. Those who don't get raised with livestock or pets just don't understand.
