My Lavendar Orpington isn't laying eggs, nor is he or she Cock-a-doodle dooing at almost 8 months old.. first orpington and these feathers are very different! With other birds, no signs of interest in females, no males interested. That comb just recently got bright so I expected an egg.. I am at a loss.

Late blooming cockerel, do you have another rooster?
I have two other roosters- different breeds, but same coop. We have cameras in the coop and the only birds who have bothered this one is the youngest of our pullets. They kind of pick on everyone and everything (literally... the dog, cats, chase squirrels, just really mischievous). One of the other roosters sticks up for him from time to time.

I agree, late blooming cockerel. The presence of more dominant birds can delay development in cockerels and deter them from crowing which might be why he isn't going after pullets or crowing yet (that and every bird is different). Give him time and he'll likely do all that eventually
