I feel I am never going to get eggs from the chickens

they have no waddles and the combs are small

how old are they ? you do know that most hen's dont lay until they are at least 6 months old or older I have learned that on here and with the weather being colder now and the loss of daylight hours they are most likely in what is call a molt mine will be 6 months old come February but I am really not expecting eggs til in the spring because of these factors just be patient , pray and it will happen before
you know it
