I feel really sorry for this duck. How do I know it's starving??

Awesome you found Duck Haven. Very sad how Muscovies are treated. They are wonderful ducks make great pets too.
I bought my big net a Dicks sporting goods many years ago paid 7.00 for it. But if you can get him or her to come close to eat out of your hand you might be able to use a large dog crate or sheet. Put food in back of crate and wait till the duck goes inside then close the door. Not too long ago a member had a lone goose living in her hoa area and she got it and took it to a sanctuary on the coast of NC. There are some wonderful people still. Including you for caring. She used a big sheet to toss over the goose.

OMG thanks so much for that idea... I didn't even think of using a dog crate! :) I would actually feel a LOT more comfortable placing a dog crate with some food inside of it. I'm almost positive he would walk right into the crate (hopefully) and then I'll quickly shut the door... and as a bonus I won't look like a CRAZY person to my neighbors standing there holding a huge net next to a plastic container I was going to stick him in LOL and with the food in the crate it won't look like I'm standing there feeding a duck.... since it's for a "dog" afterall haha.

I wish it was Monday tomorrow instead of Saturday because at least Monday morning most people are at work and less risky for me to be seen... oops.

PS: I'm gonna put the crate right next to my parked car because he'll walk towards me :) My heart is going to be racing when all this goes down LOL ;) Nervous to be seen haha (neighbor HATES that duck and if he sees this all go down he's REALLY gonna wonder!)
LOL I wish one of you guys were here to help me... be my partner in crime. It's more nerve wracking doing it alone hehe

I am on paid vacation the next 2 weeks...ijs. Wish i could b ur PIC;););)

Quick update. Here's a vid of the duck and the 2 ponds (or should I say small lake?) the duck has access to:

I'm in serious conflict here... I honestly don't know what to do!! :(

I don't know if the duck truly needs HELP or is ok?? The last thing I want is to make things worse for the duck. I was hoping after speaking to those sanctuaries that they were going to tell me don't worry about it of course the duck is fine and can fend for himself but they told me opposite and told me more it's very possible that it's in the duck's best interest to take it to a NO KILL sanctuary. Nasty trappers being sent out in these areas is also a risk... perhaps that is why those other ducks vanished...

.... I was 100% going to take it to Duck Haven in Margate FL but if you REALLY take a close look at that sanctuary (google it please and then tell me what you think) ... it looks TINY??? She said she has 50 ducks there and they are non-profit and rely on donations... which is totally cool I will for sure donate either way... but the elderly lady who runs it... what happens to all those duck if the worst happens? I hope I'm not sounding like a jerk... but I'm worried all those ducks might be put to death if something happens to that elderly lady (watch her on video on youtube etc she is 80 yrs of age) and I initially thought she has large amount of land with large ponds for those high number of ducks but it looks like the house she lives in is jammed packed right next to the neighbors? This Muscovy duck is not used to living in a cage... I'm hoping to find him a forever home with 24/7 access to a lake and good food.

If he was INJURED I would 100% for sure take him to Duck haven but he's not injured and I don't know if he REALLY indeed needs help!!?? :(

I'm going crazy... I don't know what the right thing to do is!!! :(

PLEASE take closer look at sanctuary I'm referring to and let me know if you still feel it's in this particular ducks best interest to be taken there... thanks!

The duck is fine. He doesn't leave because people keep feeding him. He also has access to plenty of grass and water - both of which provide food for him. He's not limping and you have seen him fly, so no injured wings.

As far as the "nasty" trappers are concerned, from what I understand FL has a real problem with these ducks. If they are not native to FL, they are considered and invasive species which threatens the native birds. It seems they are becoming over populated, which is also a bad thing for these birds. When a species becomes over populated, Nature will weed them out by disease and starvation. They can cause car accidents by being on the road and vehicles swerving to avoid them.

Sounds like that lady could be an animal hoarder instead of running a "sanctuary". I think he's better off where he is.
