i figured out why my shoes stink.

thats exactly what i did, i have two girlies, and a borrowed boyfriend. and no, the girls dont stink, they just smell like a livestock, which to me, is a wonderful smell! so when alexander the great goes back home, everything will be lovely again. including my stinky shoes.

and bettyr, you can always find someone that will keep the girls at their house while the buck breeds them, so you dont have to worry about his smelly butt.

Do you breed your nannies at the same time or do you stagger the breeding? I was told that a nanny will only stay in milk for 3 or 4 months at a time then she will have to be bred again.

We had a stray cat spray DH's work boots. He's washed them, sprayed them, etc etc... nothing seems to help. He hasn't bought new ones yet, so those bad boys stay OUTSIDE. I can't wait until Christmas... then he'll have new and I can throw them away... BARF.

no, a good milk goat will milk all the way up until you dry her off (two months before kidding) so she can be in milk for a long time! my does mom has milked for 22 months straight before!!! silly folks giving you bad information...

and shelly- when i got our cat fixed she peed on my dh's bullet proof vest, and you can't wash the kevlar, or febreze it, as it will melt kevlar, so we had to just hang that puppy out to air. it was GROSS. and funny. thats what he gets for leaving stuff on the floor. lol. but it was only little girl cat pee, not tomcat spray, which is gross.

Standard dairy lactation is 305 days- IF you want to milk that long. Same as a dairy cow. You breed them, three months later you dry them off, two months "off" before freshening again.

I try to breed all mine within two months of time that way I'm not forever bottle feeding kids. Fall is the "normal" breeding/rut period of most small ruminants. Some girls will come in all year long, but your chances of conception are better in the fall.

If you want milk all year, then yes, you would want to stagger their breeding by 3-4 months. It can be done. But, if you think you may want a break from milking, I would just breed them at the same time.
