dreamgirl, are you talking chickens or Guineas? You know I was wondering that being once they got comfortable if they will take flight...lol
Today when I got home from work there they were laying in the backyard. I so hope they never leave!
okiechick those liik like mine. Around their necks they have like a lavender hue. The woman told me that is what they were, I thought the "pearls" were white????

DH says they sound like they are saying Pot Rack instead of Buckwheat. I don't hear either one!!!
I can however tell the females from the males by sound. Oh...I was told that the females can make the male sound, but the males can't make the females sound. Don't know that for sure either. My females make their sound & the male makes his.

Jean is right, the female can make the one syllable sound like the males but the males do not make the two syllable sound.

We think they are saying "We're Stuck!, We're Stuck!" because they frequently get caught on the other side of the fence and stand there and scream.

I dont hear the buckwheat either, and it is hard to tll one bird from the other. My kids call them the car alarm squad. I have 12, and some think they are chickens, the other day they flew onto the porch roof. and stood up there "calling" for the chickens to come up. After the chickens couldn't join them they flew back to the ground. Mine all travel in a group with 10 chicks 3 months old. I didn't read the book about not letting them loose, and set them free when I did the chicks 3-4 weeks. They all stayed so far. The guinneas are always the first ones back to the coop, my only problem is they prefer to roost in the rafters, now the older chickens have abandoned the roost for the rafters also. Which is a subjust for the behavior section here.

Ohhhhhhhhh good, I thought I was the only one that did not understand this "buckwheat" thing. I can't tell them apart either except I only have three, 2 females and 1 male and he is bigger. It is pouring like mad here with thunder & lightning, I hope when I get home from work it has not scared them away!
