OHHHHH! That is so sweet.......It reminds me of when my geese were hatching out! We had such trouble with the 'sticking', and I wanted them to live sooo bad that I had to help them quite a bit. It's amazing how long they will remain stuck and still survive. I 'helped' one a little more than I should have last year, and we had a bad navel infection that took my gosling within the week.

This year, I did what you have done: Helped it 80%, then left it for 12 hours in the bator with 'extra' moisture. I think this was beneficial, because it gave the yolk more time to absorb, which prevented any navel issues. My goslings were very exhausted, and took a day or so to perk up. Now they are little 'terrors' in the yard at 3 weeks!! I DID have an old man ask me if I 'sprayed' the eggs as they were hatching.......which I did not! He said I was lucky they survived. I guess waterfowl have rules all their own as far as hatching goes.....

I wish you luck with this........If you're like me you'll be glued to the bator all night!! I hope you can nurse it to good health!!

You wouldn't believe me if I told you how many batteries I have gone through in a months time!! I know its' hard to keep the lid shut......you just want to crawl in there and talk it though.
I have noticed one thing that may help......and I'm sure this is something more seasoned BYC members already know.....but when I have a 'stuck' baby, I always feel it's safe to help when the innermost membrane with the veins looks to be less 'alive' and less bloody. Does that make sense? I'm always afraid that there will be too much blood loss if you pull at it too soon. I've found that peeling off the dried membrane is less stressful on the baby than having it torn too early. That's why I think my geese did so much better this time. We lost a few wing feathers peeling them out, but HEY, thats simply cosmetic, huh?!!!
