Half the size of a bantam, and still bigger than the Buttons.
When they're dry and fluffy (give them a couple of hours) quickly transfer them to the brooder, just like chicks. Handle them, play with them, coddle them... they are very sweet, trusting little things. Sprinkle ground gamebird starter around on the floor of the brooder, and yes... add marbles to the quail waterer. Even in that tiny space they can get stuck and drown.
Congratulations!!! Mine don't hatch until this weekend, and I'm hoping for a golden or two, also.
Nooo you dont have to sort them by colors....it's just cool to see the golden as I only have 2 golden hens in with my Jumbo Brown breeders. They are BEAUTIFUL...here is a pic of an adult.
Brood them just like chickens....250 watt heat light....gamebird starter.....and water. I usually start them on paper towels for the first couple days and sprinkle the food on the paper towel. And do you have a quail chick waterer base?
Good Luck!
Oh, Sam, she is really pretty. I got a wood rabbit hutch off craigslist I am covering in hardware cloth for the quail. If I brood them in my little rubbermaid brooder with wire lid how soon can I put them out and when do you take away the lamp?
About 42 x 24, Sam .. how's this gonna do for quail? 1 male and 6 female?? For breeders.
