I GOT A HEN!!!!(what is it??)

She almost looks like a Cinnamon Queen... (red sex link)

Congrats.

The hen is however in question: RAREROO, please tell me this! I'm needing confirmation!
And the Reds to me actually look like Production Reds with a little bit of Gamefowl influence that may have been bred in. Which would probably make them even better layers and more likely to set and brood.

I think you might be a little confused about what Rareroo said. Dark het. barred isn't a breed.
In my opinion, your rooster looks like a Heterozygous (het.) Barred Rock.
I am not an expert, but you might have rareroo give you a longer explanation of what het barred means, as i have asked him in the past.
Congrats on getting a hen! You've been waiting quite a while for one!

I went back and read your other thread, and Rareroo is probably right that your batch o roosters was a cross between a barred rock and and some other breed of hen, but I have heard that there are heterozygous barred rock roosters that aren't a cross-breed.

check
out this BYC link to learn about building an incubator, and then check out the Raising Chicks section to see how to make a brooder and what you'll need to get started in raising chicks!

If you need more fertile eggs than your one hen can give you, PM me and I'll see if I can send you some. They would be mixed breeds (not purebred), but if all you are looking for is hens for eggs, I could give you some hatching eggs for free!

noitulover, thank you for your generous offer...you'd be willing to ship for free to Mexico?

I hope there's a really easy way to make an incubator! Next project! I mean homemade simple!

I have never shipped eggs before, so I'd have to figure all the details out, but sure!

I'd love to help someone out that wants to get started in chickens! I was just starting out once too!

(the chicks wouldn't be purebred, they would definitely all be mixed breeds, just so you know)

I'm just kidding although I think it would be wonderful. The eggs wouldn't make it. Not sure what customs would do with them. I'm busy now trying to figure out how to build a simple homemade incubator...hope hubby will help me, but I think I could do it! Maybe it could be partly solar. glass top for the day...night time would be more of an issue but better if it was able to be kept in one place secure and comfy.

we call that hen a golden comet here, very good egg layers as i have 2 of them. i made a home made incubator out of an old water cooler, put a glass top in it with a computer fan and i find a 40 watt light bulb works great. of course i drilled holes in it for oxygen. good luck with your incubation
