I got a new LG and I HATE it!!!

remember,, when they cool off after putting your eggs in,, and starts to heat up,, it will stop heating ( light will go out) before it gets up to temp, then the next time it goes on, it will heat up a little more, then stop,, then next time more.
i made the mistake of watching it till the light went out, it was still 10 degrees too low,, then i "adjusted" up more, then after the fourth adjust, it went WAY over. so once the eggs are in,, WALK AWAY!! and check it in 20 minutes, then adjust a VERY little,,, then walk away again.

I had more luck leaving the thermostat alone and using a lamp to make tiny adjustments. I had a lamp next to the bator, and would move it closer or farther apart. I also have laid a piece of bubble wrap over the window to stablize temps.

I have six L G's that I put in local schools. You are way to impatient, once you get it set leave it be for two days to get it right. Then KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF THE DIAL. The main reason people don't like the L G is they can't mess with the eggs. The less you mess with the eggs, the better the hatch rate. I always let the kids have two hatches, one they can't open the bator until day 18, the other they get to candle and open if they want. Without opening the hatch rate is 85% or better, the one they can open the hatch rate drops to at the best 60%. Even when I was hatching 2 or 3 thousand eggs per month, we did no touching of the eggs without gloves. Most people don't realize the oil on your hands can kill or deform a chick. So mess with your dial and handle your eggs, but DO NOT blame the bator for a poor hatch rate. Anyone has impatient as you should not be hatching chicks or around any animal. For when they don't do what you want them to or don't please you, you are though with them.

my second hatch , we didnt touch but once to candle,, out of 46 we had 6 hatch,, the temp stayed right the whole time after we got it set,, and theres a difference between impatience, and worried, and i guess noone should turn their eggs by hand either? oh ya,, if a egg dies and explodes because you only candled once,, would that be the fault of the impatience?
and anyone has a right to do whatever they want with their eggs,,, dont know if you mean it to sound like your giving advice,,,, but it doesnt.
sounds like a teacher or peta employee.
to me saying someone doesnt even have a right to be impatience is pretty rude. mistakes is how people learn,,,even patience is learned that way.
oh,, i have 2 lg,, and they both suk. and having a bator with no humidity control, and having to fill it once a week, or having to put towels in it,,, makes it a crock pot.
ya i have friends that do GREAT with their lg,, and have just as many friends that use em as a back-up ,, and they do thousands of eggs a year,,,, and they think they stink too.

panner - I am sorry that you feel that I am impatient. I suppose it's b/c my trusty Hovabator takes only a couple of hours to set up correctly. I am not "through" with something just b/c I'm impatient, but I do expect it to work correctly. I have no desire to mess with the eggs, only the desire not to have them cooked. I'm sure that you have some faults too...none of us are as perfect as we like to think.

To everyone else, thanks for the helpful info and support.

Hi!
I have 3 LG's and they are more stable than my HovaBator.

This post doesn't make a darn bit of sense to me:

Good luck figuring out your new LG, Kelly.

No problems with mine, but I also don't worry like crazy about the temp. Mine fluctuates all the time, 97 to 101, I still have great hatches. I figure if a hen with brain smaller than a pea, can hatch eggs, then its surely not rocket science. I use both, hova, and lg, really no difference in my opinion, except LG has a much better heat adjustment.

Ok, the eggs are in (40 of them) and I think the temp is stable.

My Black Copper Marans are in there, so it will be an expensive screw-up if it fries them!

Dipsy - I ended up with 5 Silkies and 5 Frizzles (actually 6, but I had to cull one) from your eggs - they're adorably fluffy! One of the Silkies has such a domed skull she looks like she's going to fall over!
