I got an egg-like thingy!

I posted yesterday about one of my hens acting like she was going to lay, and I guess we were right on the money! Today I found a little...thingy...in the coop. It's shaped like a very tiny egg, and it's shell is very soft. It's like a little bag. My book mention this, so I gather that it's not that weird. So today I will find a golf ball to stick in the nest box, and I will make sure that the coop is as comfy as possible! YAY! Eggs are in the near future!

Sneaky Chickens!

I went back out to put more nest material in the nest boxes, since the "practice egg" was not in the box (and the hen had pulled all the bedding in the whole coop into one area, made a divot, and laid her egg there). Clearly the hens were not happy with the nest box in it's present state, so I was going to improve it. I open the coop, and there, in all it's blue-green glory, is a *real* egg! Sitting right in the nest box, exactly where I wanted it!

It REALLY IS a great feeling and a happy surprise.
How lovely, a blue-green egg.
