I got my chicks today!

Very cute! Sigh, I have new chick envy something fierce this year, well actually every year this time! But no place to put new birds so no chicks for me this year. All I can do is gawk at all the pic's of new babies that everybody else posts!

We named the ancona Alice. She's very loud, and I thought she might have been cold, so I moved down their heat lamp and they all are pretty contented right now, but Alice was still being very loud and already she's running ALL OVER the place and trying to jump ont op of the waterer and trying to fly and jump around and wow I didn't think chicks this young did this! I took her out briefly and she jumped onto my shoulder immediately and when I moved her off and held her in front of me, she tried to jump onto my head! If she's not the first one to manage to jump out of the brooder when she's older, I'll be surprised!

I can see how people would have chick envy!

And now five more need names, but we're not rushing with naming them since we want fitting names.

ps, right now no one is complaining about anything. They're all eating and drinking and playing and making contented chick noises

Congratulations on your chicks....they're beautiful. I looked back at pictures of my girls when they were chicks and can't believe they were so small. I knew I would enjoy having chickens, but never thought I would love them the way I do. Sounds like you are doing a great job with them and on your way to being hooked.

I definitely expect to be hooked on 'em. I'm glad I'm homeschooled so I can give them 100% of my attention and no less... well... maybe a bit less since they have to share me with 13 lizards and 3 rats. I'm such an animal person, it's insane. *,* I'm definitely definitely undoubtedly going to be hooked

You sound like me. I fall in love and spoil all my animals. I also have 3 rats. I have had rats for the last 10 years. I now have 2 boys and 1 girl. They are siblings and nearly 28 months old and really slowing down. Lost their sister in Oct. They have been very healthy, but are overweight. All they want to do is eat and lay in their hammocks. I also have a very spoiled cat. What kind of lizards do you have?

I have 1 boy rat and 2 girls. =) Jared's neutered also, so no babies, but he's also slowing down since he's about 2 years old, but the girls are still extremely active. Jared's a dumbo rat and Sophie is a standard-eared and Clarissa is a standard eared, grey and white dwarf rat I think since she's about half the size of the others and has been like that for /months/.

As far as my lizards go, I have one bearded dragon, one leopard gecko, 10 crested geckos(I bred them the last year or two) and 1 gargoyle gecko. These are the lizards I'm in charge of caring for.(And the rats are my responsibility, too)

We actually have more lizards than that, my older sister has 1 bearded dragon, and my mom has one of my crested geckos, and my younger sister has an adult female crestie who is the mum of all but 2 of our hatched out geckos, putting us at a grand total of 16 reptiles: 12 crested gecko, 2 bearded dragons, 1 gargoyle, and 1 leopard.

Along with all the reptiles we have 4 cats, 3 indoor and 1 outdoor, a 13 year old alaskan husky, and my sister just got a Holland Lop rabbit a week ago(on my birthday! =O I was a bit irritated she was getting a rabbit on my birthday, but I get to play with him and not take care of him, so it's all cool, plus he's a real sweet rabbit).

And now to add to the group--- 6 chickens!!

More pictures~

I took out my Gold Laced Wyandotte and she perched right on my finger and was extremely content there! Also, I named her Ruby.

Everyone here is surrounding Anna, the buff orpington, and on her right is Ruby the GLW, and on her left, the ancona, is Alice.
We don't have names for the other three yet.

Ruby and Alice with the australorp and RIR(who is very people friendly actually)

Ruby's turn to sit in the middle! Attempting to do so with Anna! *Actually I think she just shoved her out.

They all love sitting in the middle of that thing, which I did buy for another waterer, but they aren't too big on their trough feeder right now, so I let them have that. I'm making sure they don't poop in it and scooping it out when they do. Also, the food's not that close to the water anymore just because things were getting cramped. It's not too far away, but not terribly close anymore.

They seem to settle down for like, 15 minute naps before they're up and playing again!

Oh Good, you got your chickies!!!

This is a great way to document them, nice job on the photoshop or what ever you used...I would do this every week until they crow or lay.
Thanks~ And yeah I plan on doing pics of them like the ones I posted with the date and stuff each Friday until they lay their first eggs, (assuming all are females since each was 95% guaranteed to be female)

Gah, they are so cute! I have five chicks at the moment. Two were hatched by our goose from some of our fertile eggs and three were bought as friends for the two. I have a Buff Orpington, a Buff Orpington/Red Star cross, a black Silkie, a blue Polish Frizzle, and some kind of cohin that I was told was an Easter Egger. I don't even know if Easter Eggers come in cochin, but I have one and it is adorable. The great thing about chickens is that even when they do get older they are still cool looking.
