I got the bugger!!!!WARNING-GRAPHIC PIC

I find many of the pictures educational and I quite understand someone wanting to brag(?) about catching/killing a predator that has been praying on their livestock. I had never heard of the type of trap use by the OP. I watched a video of how this trap can be quite cruel. HOWEVER! People must use what WORKS for them and I don’t believe the OP is using the trap indiscriminately. Looks like OP used the right size trip for the pray OP was after and it looks like it was a clean kill. I'd say OP did a good job and appreciate the chance to see OP's accomplishment. After all OP did say, “WARNING-GRAPHIC PIC”.

Disrespectful?? Do animal respect me? People seem to want to attach human feelings to animals. I have respect for all living things but they also have their place. Oh, and heck yeah I was bragging. It took me 3 nights to catch that bugger.

I might have to make that into a bumper sticker.

Saw the animal control officer today and told him that I got a coon and he asked how. "Conibear" I told him. "Oh good, saves me from having to get him. Get as many as you can, cause 4 more will come to the funeral." Sounds like my great uncle Chot. That man would shoot woodchucks from his bedroom window with a 12 gauge. "You never see one, 3, 4 maybe but never just one". Crazy old man. RIP.

I'm sure I'll get flack from this comment too.

There was a poor chap in Brunswick just recently who is getting rabies shots because a raccoon just came up to his deck and when he tried to scare it away it went up the steps and attacked him, several bites, and scratches later he had crushed it to death using his legs. The raccoon tested positive for rabies.

I use a 16 gauge single shot boom stick from K-Mart with short brass number 6 shells to dispatch woodchucks and they do come in multiples. So I agree fully with your beloved but departed crazy old man.

I saw that last night on the news. There seems to be a lot of rabies this year. Wouldn't want to be in his shoes, rabies shots don't seem like a fun way to end the summer.

I trap coon for the hides and meat after crawfish season, and I find the old double compression spring traps cant be beat, you just have to remember to stake them down, because they are leg traps. Just make sure to club the coon instead of shooting him if you plan on selling the hide. the fur buyers will cut your price if the hide is full of bullet holes.

C'mon now guys!!! Can't we all just be nice? "Let's just agree to disagree!!"

I mean, after all, it is predators and pests, so we must expect there to be
some pictures of the animals!!! And the OP even put their post so long, so
that when you click on the page, you don't even have to see the pic right
away!!!

lets just be nice!!!!! BYC doesn't have any law that I'm aware
of that states "We must all fight as much as possible on predators and pests!!"

I guess I'm just the odd one out. I feel relieved after I have to kill a predator, but I am not glad. I don't brag about it. I rarely even speak about it. I have no problem with the way he killed the animal or the picture. I guess I just don't see killing an animal as something to be congratulated/rewarded for.

How am I attaching human feelings to an animal, by saying that I think PEOPLE should be more respectful of animals? They don't realize that what they're killing is someone's pet. They are feeding themselves.

I don't mind agreeing to disagree. I just felt the need to explain myself.

Oh wow, that's a mess. We have issues like that with rabbits. They are eating our feed and so overpopulated you can't walk 20 feet on our property without tripping over a rabbit. They're not even scared of us anymore. Our landlords won't let us put out poison for them, or shoot them unless we do it "legally"...we called Fish and Game, and legal means a $30 hunting license, but...we can't shoot within a quarter mile of a building, even our own. They just said to live trap and release the rabbits elsewhere. So, we would be left to spend $5 in gas money for each rabbit and over an hour every day to trap and release a couple of rabbits, when they are reproducing at a faster rate than we can relocate? Argh. I want to trap a hundred of them and "relocate" them to the parking lot of Fish and Game! lol This in the state where it is legal to carry a concealed weapon with no permit...you can take your gun to the grocery store, but you can't shoot a bunny in the backyard. And since the landlords are my husband's parents, and live on the property as well, we can't just shoot and shut up.

Gamo Air rifle them ,skin em and eat em. Doesn't anyone eat rabbits anymore? We do down here in Fla when it cools down in the winter,,,,Haha.

Really the air rifles whack em real fast and humanely. Find someone who will eat them. Ask around. "greenies" ,,,,,,not in Central Florida. We got Rednecks here!

Rabid coons are a growing problem-in northern Maine the wardens are trying pellets with a rabies vaccine in them out in the wild. Still won't help my chickens. A dead raccoon is the best raccoon. Nice hat too.

you might consider using a pair of the setters if you purchase 220 size or larger and learn to use the safety on the traps. A rope can be used to set them , but the setters are easier IMO

Dh is jacked. If we were setting more than one trap he would consider getting a pair of setters, but the trap was bought yesterday just for this reason. He will probably set it again tonight along with foothold trap. Couple of foxes around too. However I can see this turning into really trapping, licence, trap route the whole nine.

I have to admit that I thought he was saying he wanted to get an Econo-bear trap. All I could think was "Why does he want a cheap bear trap?" I asked him and he laughed his butt off. "Not an Econo-bear, a conibear trap. It isn't like Econolodge with the sleep walking bear or anything." Funny thing is, is that is exactly what I pictured in my head. Silly me.
