There was a poor chap in Brunswick just recently who is getting rabies shots because a raccoon just came up to his deck and when he tried to scare it away it went up the steps and attacked him, several bites, and scratches later he had crushed it to death using his legs. The raccoon tested positive for rabies.

I use a 16 gauge single shot boom stick from K-Mart with short brass number 6 shells to dispatch woodchucks and they do come in multiples. So I agree fully with your beloved but departed crazy old man.

I saw that last night on the news. There seems to be a lot of rabies this year. Wouldn't want to be in his shoes, rabies shots don't seem like a fun way to end the summer.

I trap coon for the hides and meat after crawfish season, and I find the old double compression spring traps cant be beat, you just have to remember to stake them down, because they are leg traps. Just make sure to club the coon instead of shooting him if you plan on selling the hide. the fur buyers will cut your price if the hide is full of bullet holes.

lets just be nice!!!!! BYC doesn't have any law that I'm aware
of that states "We must all fight as much as possible on predators and pests!!"

I guess I'm just the odd one out. I feel relieved after I have to kill a predator, but I am not glad. I don't brag about it. I rarely even speak about it. I have no problem with the way he killed the animal or the picture. I guess I just don't see killing an animal as something to be congratulated/rewarded for.

How am I attaching human feelings to an animal, by saying that I think PEOPLE should be more respectful of animals? They don't realize that what they're killing is someone's pet. They are feeding themselves.

I don't mind agreeing to disagree. I just felt the need to explain myself.

Rabid coons are a growing problem-in northern Maine the wardens are trying pellets with a rabies vaccine in them out in the wild. Still won't help my chickens. A dead raccoon is the best raccoon. Nice hat too.

Dh is jacked. If we were setting more than one trap he would consider getting a pair of setters, but the trap was bought yesterday just for this reason. He will probably set it again tonight along with foothold trap. Couple of foxes around too. However I can see this turning into really trapping, licence, trap route the whole nine.

I have to admit that I thought he was saying he wanted to get an Econo-bear trap. All I could think was "Why does he want a cheap bear trap?" I asked him and he laughed his butt off. "Not an Econo-bear, a conibear trap. It isn't like Econolodge with the sleep walking bear or anything." Funny thing is, is that is exactly what I pictured in my head. Silly me.
